80s British metal band. The Exodus to Iron Maiden's Metallica if you will.

Saw them last year in Houston, opened for Priest. Still bring it pretty good.

Amazing band! These are must own albums:

Power And The Glory
Wheels Of Steel
Strong Arm Of The Law
Denim And Leather
Crusader

* 747 (Strangers In The Night) is one of the greatest rock songs of the 80’s.

**They are still putting out quality music to this day. Saw them live with Iron Maiden in the early 80’s; in my top 3 greatest concerts ever. Love’em.

Loved Saxon back in the day. I should probably check out their latest stuff because honestly I haven’t kept up with them the way I should’ve.

Actually saw them at the Texas Club with Armored Saint opening back in 1986. Incredible.

ETA: tigermeat has provided a perfect list to start with.

I don’t think I’ve ever provided this detail but what the hell I will now. My buddy and I were right down front from the beginning of that show. I had my Accept Metal Heart tour shirt on and was losing my shite pretty much the whole show. At one point Biff says to the crowd “You know what I hate? I hate disco”. LOL. Then he looks down right at me, points at me, and says “Are you a disco fan?” And of course my reply was a very emphatic “frick no!!”

True story. Good times.

This might be part of it. Just so happened it was the same night as the LSU-Purdue first round tournament game at the Assembly Center.

Now I fricking LOVE LSU, and it sucked to not be able to see it, but I knew there would be many many more Tiger basketball games to come and I figured more tourney appearances too, and I knew Saxon and Armored Saint at a club in Baton Rouge was likely a once in a lifetime proposition. Really was a pretty easy choice.

When they announced the score before Saxon played I was surprised. Kind of expected a bit of a ho-hum response from the Saxon crowd but it was actually a nice roar. Awesome.

Now as for why you didn’t hear or read about it in the weeks ahead.

ETA: Can’t swear to it but I’m pretty sure I saw it listed in the Fun section of the Friday Advocate a few weeks ahead.

Damn, blast from the past! Yes, pre-internet days this was like the gold at the end of the rainbow for entertainment news! Used to read this ahead of Sports.

Was a key band in NWOBHM but still producing strong music and bring it live, saw them with Priest last year in Tulsa.

They have roughly 23 albums out. Pretty consistent hard rocking band. I prefer them to all NWOBHM bands to be honest.

Personal favorites
Denim & Leather
Solid Ball of Rock
Hammer of the Gods
Iron Wheels
Princess of the Night

Saxon is good old fashioned mullet metal. Meant to be played loudly on a cheap system in a jacked up '69 Chevy with thick clouds of pot smoke permeating the air. Pretty sure "Wheels Of Steel" was playing in the background the first time I ralphed from drinking a bunch of beer too fast.
