Seeing a band beg for money just to finish an album is weird.

Record labels ain’t exactly supporting bands like they used to

It depends on the band. It makes sense for bands who haven’t really “made” it and don’t have resources that a major label has. I’ve supported a couple bands in this way. It wasn’t really crowdsourcing though because I paid for the album up front, before it was made, plus they all signed a poster that came with it.

You typically get the new album in return, at a minimum... I dont see an issue with it

Are we talking about a GOfundMe type thing or something more involved and expensive?
As mentioned record labels aren’t what they once were. Are there still record companies like Atlantic or RCA etc? Or are the “record” companies now Sony, Apple, and Amazon. Or anyone with massive streaming platforms?

It never hits me right, but I understand why bands do it…

I don't have any issues with it.

And it sucks that it comes to that, but the record companies are only concerned about the bottom line, and sometimes art isn't that straight-forward.

Necessary evil since they’re literally making less than a cent on streams.
