I hate this crap lol.

When their first album came out Castaways and Cutouts I remember listening to it for a couple days I guess because I was just in that state of mind and I think liked it very briefly but then his voice became like nails on a chalkboard. Same reason I don’t like Death Cab for Cutie (or one of the reasons).

I can understand what you mean about his voice. It’s kind of polarizing. I think The Crane Wife is a great album - probably my favorite. Also enjoyed the rock opera follow up Hazards of Love. I didn’t get into much of their other stuff until their last album, I’ll Be Your Girl, which I liked well enough.

I'm not a huge fan of most of their work, but Calamity Song is fantastic. That's probably because I'm a big fan of early REM though.

saw them in concert a few years ago. It was OK, but that's how I feel about most bands of that genre.

Really loved The Crane Wife and The King is Dead.

I was with you until this. Ben's voice is nothing like that dude, and he has an excellent voice. His cover of Starsign

As to the Decemberists, I wanted to like them because of Yankee Bayonet, but none of the other songs I listened to did it for me.

I just listened to it for the first time, and I immediately heard what you're talking about. Can't put my finger on the song. Like a combo of something from Chronic Town and Reckoning. Maybe Pretty Persuasion?

I like them okay. Their kinda boring live unless you're a big fan of them. I really like their King Is Dead album and still listen to it somewhat regularly. The rest of their stuff is kind of hit or miss for me.

I like them ok but I get bored

Voice doesn't bother me. Neither does Death Cab, or even Tallest Man on Earth.

Now Iron and Wine? Please shoot me

I can't do meek, quiet singing

It makes me cringe

Beam is slightly more tolerable live

I first heard him live. Went back to hear the studio versions, and yeah, those suck. Something happened after whatever album that was because his ACL episode was fantastic.

This is how I hear his voice.

Oh, and check out the first comment:

Amazing performance. I just wish they're albums weren't so whispery
