Looks like I will be attending this year for the first time. Haven't been to NOLA since 2005 pre-katrina. Curious what to expect. We are only going so my wife can see mumford and sons. It looks like it's a festival geared more toward a heavy darker music maybe? Should I expect burning man, eyelinered gothers, or just a bunch of drunk people? We are staying a couple blocks West of Harrahs. What's the best way to get to the festival? Walking or driving?

Expect a younger / college age crowd. Lots of costumes (its Halloween).

Voodoo has rap, rock (not so much this year), electronic, etc all types of music which is why I love it.

I think your best way to get there from harrahs, would be the street car.

I wouldn't call Voodoo heavy or dark. It's going to be a bunch of millennials in costumes. We Uber, but expect a walk at night to find one if you don't want to wait in the line at the entrance.

It's a 5 mile walk between Harrah's and the park.

There's usually city buses right by Harrah's on Canal that will take you directly to City Park (make sure it's the express line), it's like $1.50 each way and 40 minutes faster than the street cars.

Thanks for the input. Does anyone know or have they even released the schedule yet? If you go to Mumford and sons website it shows them playing all 3 nights. Is that common for this festival to have the headliner all 3 nights? I imagine they just are placeholders until the actual date is released. Not sure.

The schedule usually isnt released until a few weeks before the festival

And M&S will only headline one night of Fri, Sat, Sun. All 3 days probably shows up on their website because even they don’t know yet

How old are you....be prepared for a very young crowd...it was a much better event in its early years....go see you band and then hangout in the French quarter the rest of the time

Like jazz fest but...

Crowd is reverse in age. Instead of hanging out with 58-year-olds, there will be many college kids.

The weather is so nice. The humidity at jazz fest can be bad.

The artists are mostly still in their primes. Jazzfest gives you a nursing home full of artists.

Both are crowded, but I always liked Voodoo...especially 4 years ago with The Cure. And there is always a hidden gem off the beaten path. At Jazzfest, I can only watch the Radiators so many times.

The fun part is when you can hear the electronic stage off in the distance, in between songs at one of the rock stages.

LOTS of kids, and security at the gate is usually not a fast process...

They seem to move the gate every single year, which is something that I can't really wrap my head around (they actually move most of everything though, stages etc).

Expect a bunch of high school and college aged kids drunk/on drugs and showing a lot of skin.

Went last year for the first time since 2008 and was kind of tired of it by Sunday.

Also, sneak in booze or be prepared to spend a ton to get a buzz.

In my brief experience, all kinds of people show up. Nothing threatening that I’ve seen. But that was pre-Katrina.
