Anyone on here play the Violin? I am in my early 30's and just bought a student Violin so I can learn. Is the Violin a hard instrument to learn?

Never played but heard it is hard. Had a friend that was in music school, played proficient guitar and piano but struggled like hell to play the violin.

Good luck, it's a beautiful instrument.

I have a fiddle and can honestly say that it is the most frustrating thing I've tried to learn. Its one of those instruments that you never really "learn" but instead get progressively better at.

ETA: Not really sure about any crossover between the two as I'm pretty bad at fiddle.

Thanks. I want to learn both but from what I have heard when you learn one the other is easy. Just have to get used to the faster pace of the fiddle

What's the difference between a violin and a fiddle? About a million bucks.

You don't spill beer on a violin.

I'm always in awe of how anyone plays a stringed instruments without frets.

Never tried to learn but I dated a professional violinist. I asked her how long after she started to learn did it take before it didn't sound like she was killing cats. She said, three years.

As a guitar player, any instrument with no frets is demonic.

Violin is hard because technique actually matters.

My advice to you is you gotta keep the bow parallel to the bridge, and also make sure not to bow over the fingerboard. Keep your arm straight, its all in the elbow and the wrist. Putting your fingers in the right place will come over time. They sell tape for beginners so you know where to put your fingers.
