The Brothers were born in Nashville. They picked up guitar because of their grandparents neighbor that would often play on the front porch, They were inspired by concerts they attended at Nashville's Municipal Auditorium, and their first paying gig was house band at a dive bar in Nashville called The Briar Patch. They called themselves the Allman Joys at the time.

But my favorite CDB Song is this one...
Uneasy Rider
Mostly because of this remake by John Boy and Billy (Awful sound quality on this upload, but only one I could find...)

Lot's of these classics are on our Family's "Road Trip" playlist
Allman Brothers - Southbound
Take the Highway
And a bunch that probably aren't technically "Southern rock" because the bands came from elsewhere, but the certainly have the same feel...
Doobie Brothers - Rocking Down the Highway
Free - All right now
Mountain - MIssissippi Queen
James Gang - Funk 49

Um... you're talking to the guy that had Stevie Gaines as his avi for a couple of years.
Yeah. I just thought they needed mentioning.

Is CCR considered Southern rock even though the band was from California or wherever?

"Fooled Around And Fell In Love" LIVE 1976 - Elvin Bishop (featuring Mickey Thomas)
I don't give a damn what he did with Starship, Mickey Thomas is a great effing singer. Wow.
