It was a refreshing surprise for me. It was a new smart sound that I still enjoy today. I'd give it a 7.
On another note, they need to quit doing all their stupid side projects and come out with a new cd. It's been since 2009 since Contra.

cheers. I can honestly say that other than Dylan, Modest Mouse, and Built to Spill, I've never tried any of the other artists on your list. So it goes, like you say.

If you would've asked me in 2007 or whenever it came out, I'd give a nine probably...just being excited about the new find.
That cd puts me in a specific happy mood no matter what whenever I listen to it. Kids don't stand a chance is one of my all time favorites, along with Mansard Roof. I like the whole damn cd now that I'm thinking about it.

I mean, I know a couple songs, but I've never explored them. I know the songs you would expect I'd know, but I'm not into deep tracks on them.

Seaward, I've been reading the music threads on this board for years though I don't often post in them and my tastes are pretty similar to yours.
I agree wholeheartedly with all of the above with one exception and you've turned me on to several new bands over the years whether you know it or not.
But help me out w/ Dismemberment Plan. I'm struggling w/ getting into that, so link me to a couple of the best tracks off of that album.
You posted Sunset Rubdown repeatedly and my musical mind finally came around to S. Krug and all of his side projects, whereas I didn't get it at first.
Help a brother out w/ Dismemberment Plan if you don't mind.

i'll try my best. glad to hear you have become a krug fan. sometimes i think my fandom of him goes a little overboard on this board..

I can't really put into words why I love the Dismemberment Plan so much. I just remember listening to them for the first time and being blown away. Although you can hear their influences in them, they still sounded totally unique to me. Just a perfect oddball pop sound. Plus their drummer is totally badass.

Solid 8! Every track works for me and like previously mentioned always puts me in a good mood. "Walcott" is my jam off that album.

I think Vampire Weekend is a solid 7. Good album, catchy hooks, but man, it just screams prep school douchebag. Who sings about an Oxford comma? Hey, even upper middle class white kids have to rock out. And let’s be honest, they are my people.
The Dismemberment Plan is great. One of my mantras is music was meant to be heard live, and there is nothing quite like the anticipation of the explosion that occurs about halfway through Ice of Boston, when the band reaches the chorus. Just one of those “I’m glad to be alive” kind of moments. I also love their quirk. Going from the Casio-themed You Are Invited to the propulsive force of One Too Many Blows to the Head. Seriously, great damn band.

Yeah, Gyroscope is great. Only reason I didn't link it was because I couldn't find a good sounding version on YouTube.
