Rick has some great interviews. Alison Kraus was a good one recently.

I hope he can beat these bastards before he runs out of money on his lawyer.

Artist salaries keep going down, lawyer salaries keep going up.

Once upon a time, a publication such as Rolling Stone would have done a real story on this.

Too busy trying to frame frat boys now.

Rick Beato promotes music. UMG should be paying him, not suing him.

The artists involved should be defending him.

The music industry continues to shoot itself in the foot.

Yeah, I’ll never get attacking someone that is trying to lift you up. It’s insanity. A lot of artists get it but sadly a lot don’t.

Record labels should be beating his door down trying to place their artists on his show and discuss their songs.

The idea that they are taking legal action to prevent the very thing they should be promoting is insanity.

Does anyone have any responses from UMG on this and what their rationale is?

quote:

“I’m doing interviews with people and playing the music that they either wrote or recorded, or they produced,” Beato explains. “You need to play people music to talk about it. That is the definition of fair use. These are interviews with people about their careers. Why are these record labels wanting to take down content about artist that have records on their label? What sense does that make?”

Couple of links for Beato fans (like me):

1:In a turnaround, Beato gets interviewed. It was before the latest UMG dustup, but it's classic RB: LINK

2: He's speaking at Vanderbilt's Blair School of Music next month. I'm thinking about making the trip. LINK
