I was unexpectedly surprised the by train the first time I saw them. Didn't expect much and they put on a great show. For being as mainstream as they are I had very low expectations and left really surprised at how good they were live

Mute Math. Wasn't expecting much from them, but they played with a shite ton of energy and their drummer is sick

My Morning Jacket - the day after Mardi Gras 2002 at the Hi Ho Lounge.

I had At Dawn when it came out, a little less than a year before, and loved the record, but it was a mellow record... never seen them live...

They came out looking like mountain men, Jim James flying v in hand and rocked. It was a short show and JJ covered Springsteen's "I'm on fire"

INXS was unbelievable live. I figured they'd be pretty good, but they were all terrific musicians and they were as tight as you can get.

Tegan and Sara. I watched a 2 part documentary with a live show following on Netflix. I'd recommend checking it out, I was impressed with the first song. I really enjoyed their live set, but oddly their records don't really capture how good they are live. If I had heard the record before seeing their live show I probably wouldn't have watched it.

Here is the trailer. LINK

I hadn't seen them before that. I'm not from New Orleans, none of my friends really knew about them either
