Top albums from 1977

The best "7" year, IMO
So much good stuff this year. Arguably one of the most important years in the history of modern rock music.
Fleetwood Mac destroying the charts, punk getting really started up and coming out with some it's essential albums, Bowie came out with Heroes and Low this year, Talking Heads and Wire and Elvis Costello and the Clash all coming out with debuts, and much more.
Basically the first year where music made the transition from guitars and the Eagles and shitty early 70's soft rock into punk and post-punk and synthesizers everywhere.
1. Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols
2. David Bowie - Low
3. Television - Marque Moon
4. Elvis Costello - My Aim is True
5. The Clash - The Clash
6. Wire - Pink Flag
7. Talking Heads - '77
8. Fleetwood Mac - Rumors
9. David Bowie - Heroes
10. Billy Joel - The Stranger
Lots of good stuff that didn't make the list too: Iggy Pop's The Idiot, Animals by Floyd, Pete Gabriel's first solo album, Aja by Steely Dan (if you're into that I guess), Exodus by the Marley and the Wailers (and a bunch of other really good reggae). Good year, and probably one of the most important.

You list two David Bowie albums as best of 1977, but call The Who overrated. That's funny, and I like Bowie. That said, The Who have recorded farts better than anything the Sex Pistols ever created.

I love The Who. My first concert ever was The Who at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles when I was 14.

The year I was born. That Clash album is probably my most prized vinyl. Probably one of the top 10 albums of the 20th century - heavily influenced the next 20 years of rock music, and still remains on many musicians' lists of favorite albums. Guns of Brixton is my favorite track.

That's the year my son was born, but the two songs I associate most with his infancy came out the following year, as I discovered when I checked just now.

Guns of Brixton is on London Calling, not the self-titled debut. Both are fantastic albums though.

10. The Meters - New Directions - yeah, it is certainly a band falling apart but tracks like "Be My Lady" and "Funkify Your Life" are classic.
9. The Brothers Johnson - Right on Time - some of the best bass playing you will hear. "Strawberry Letter #23" is the heavy one but the whole set is pretty funking good.
8. Fela Kuti - Sorrow, Tears, and Blood - for anyone wanting to get into afrobeat this is a go-to
7. Sex Pistols - Nevermind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols - I love the raw energy on here. Songs like "Anarchy in the UK" , "God Save the Queen" , and "Holiday in the Sun" are as good as punk rock gets.
6. David Bowie - Heroes - the title track is one of Bowie's very best and a great anthem for peace
5. Pink Floyd -Animals - the last great Floyd album. I hate The Wall.
4. Bob Marley - Exodus - Yeah mon
3. The Clash - The Clash - although I prefer the 1979 US release of the same name

Lighten up, Jimmy. That staged video was bad, admit it. As to BOC, I like some of their stuff, and agree, that was a good album. Nowhere in the discussion for top ten. There were a lot of good albums not mentioned in this thread. Animals, for one.
