Listen to Lateralus in its entirety, from beginning to end.

Then, go to YouTube and listen to The Beautiful Gift. Fans figured out a *different* way to listen to Lateralus, and it makes an entirely different album with different feelings.

Lateralus is probably my favorite album of all time.

Its actually called The Holy Gift.

Every time I’ve ever tried to listen to Tool I keep on waiting for the song to start…it never seems to. A lot of people like them so I guess there’s some music in there somewhere, I’ve just never heard it…

This is my favorite band of all time so I’m incredibly bias.

Only really care for Aenima and everything since.

Lateralus album is the GOAT.

Aenima is a great bridge of old tool moving towards new tool. Phenomenal album all the way through.

10,000 days almost took that long for me to come around to the album. Like someone said …it all ages like fine wine.
Love wings 1 & 2 and right in two. Vicarious and Jambi are solid works. Its only fault was that it came after Lateralus. It’s like bane having to follow up the jokers performance.

I only really enjoy FI, Pneuma, invincible, and descending for the new album but all of those songs combined feel like the new album. So I guess I like the new album.

Oh and tool is way better than phish.

Lateralus cd sounds great on surround sound. It's like they recorded it for that.

It’s the older Tool for me. Pre 10,000 Days. The angry songs like “Swamp Song” and beautiful ones like “The Patient”. I never got into the “Jambi” and “Pot” sound (I’ve also never smoked). Have seen them three times and they sound phenomenal. Maynard is a legend. Danny Carey is a god.

It's not "Pot" - it's "The Pot" as in, calling the kettle black. It's a song about hypocrisy, not "dope" my guy.

Everything you said is right but I didn't get his point anyway. Even if it was about pot, I never tried DMT but still love Rosetta Stoned.

What are some music songs you like, fellow kid?

Wait - let me guess - if the singer doesn't sound like he had some bad shrimp it isn't "music"? If not, help me out.

I heard a bass player explain why 46&2 is his favorite song. He was saying that the bass line inverts over the course of the song- but subtly. By the time the song is over, the bassline is actually being played backwards.

Yeah, they have to be the most overrated of all time (if Pearl Jam isn't). I view it as boring sludge metal with a good drummer. APC was infinitely better. It's weird because their first single wasn't even that good.

They have a decent number of songs that have some cool elements - but just never seem to make it as a whole song. "Prison Sex" is a good example - it's actually a great and inventive riff/beat, but it just loses it very quickly. I think the singing is pretty not great also.

At some point, they're just the modern version of what Yes devolved into: masturbatory nonsense attempting to prove they can learn a bunch of off-time signatures and play them together.

I've never approached them as more "vibe based", but the people who mentioned mushrooms and listen...that makes sense to me. I can imagine that being a thing.

I’m a chick. And I guess I associate that whole album with stoners. They seemed to gravitate to that sound, and I preferred the old, grungy Tool is all I meant.

Not a fan of phish but that is similar to comparing pizza to a notebook. Seems like two different things.

I slept on the album at first, but (I'm not a stoner) I've grown to appreciate it more over time. Right in Two and The Pot are right up there in my "Tier favorite" Tool songs.

Talk about damning them with the faintest praise possible.

Do yourself a favor and go watch reactions on YouTube of the Danny Carey drum cam video of "Pneuma".

It's so funny watching some hip hop heads try and vibe with a Tool song. Yet wholesome in some way because they all love it.

It's definitely about hypocrisy, but there are also allegories to weed (you must have been high) and critiques of the justice system (kangaroo done hung the guilty with the innocent) in there as well.

Adam Jones remains underappreciated, underrated, and undervalued by even Tool fans.
