One of my go to’s still.

Blue and out of the vein were fantastic albums, I’d even vernture to say Ursa Major was underrated af. Sharp knife, one and ten, water landing, summer town, all really really fun songs. I went to like 6 3eb shows one summer with a lot of vacation time just because I kept having more and more fun at the last one.

Stephen Jenkins is an a-hole tho lol

My favorite sequence of songs, and also one of my favorite albums.

TEB self-titled album is impressive. The first half is the hits & fan favorites, followed by some solid songs, then finished off with the three gems mentioned above.

Mine too. Particularly The Background. What a great song.

Crystal Baller is my all time favorite 3EB song. I haven't listened to their most recent stuff but the late 90s early 00s stuff was great.

ETA: Saw them in like 2005 and they put on a good show.

Are they? Their first album is very good but I can't get into their other stuff.

I wasn't (and still am not) very familiar with 3eb outside of their megapopular radio hits, but I bought the debut album at a garage sale about a year ago and it's still the only CD in my car, I listen to it every couple weeks or so. Just about every song is a damn gem, and I honestly skip over the mega popular radio hits at this point in favor of all the others.

Does anyone have a link or a backstory about the girl or relationship that inspired the album? Sounds like he had a pretty tumultuous relationship and breakup based on most of the lyrics but I've never read any backstory on it.

Rolling Stone did a good article that may answer some of your questions.

Out of the vein is all about Stephen and Charlize Therons up and down relationship. I think she did a number on him. Pretty sure he was with Vanessa Carlton as well.

If you’re skipping over the radio stuff then do yourself a favor and go get ‘blue’ or ‘out of the vein’. Both are really really great albums all the way through. “Crystal baller” and “wounded” are some top tracks I would recommend

A top 10 90s band IMO. I’m a huge Oasis fan but I think 3eb was better

I was a senior in high school when there album hit big and of course we wore out this cd.

I could not help make fun of it a little bit when it and all the other similar styles of late 90’s music took over for the grunge or pumpkins era stuff that I was into.

For instance I couldn’t help but sing lyrics to the Dana Carvey skit/song “chopping broccoli” when 3eb sang “cannot graduate”

Look up the Dana skit and then listen to the 3eb song graduate and tell me you would not make the same joke as an 18 year old in 1997.

But as the years went on the album has such a place in my youth and is very enjoyable even today.

Their subsequent albums are just as good.

Blue is one of my favorite albums of all time. Just great from start to finish. Self titled incredible as well. The band took a hit when Cadogan was ousted. Their unique sound was driven by him.

I've seen them several times and enjoy the shows but it's weird seeing them without the original lineup.

Not to blow your mind but the lyrics are “can I graduate” not cannot graduate

I agree that Cadogan drove the sound. I also really really enjoyed Out of the Vein. It may be my favorite album by them even though, ironically, there’s no Cadogan.

Then they dropped off. They’ve had some decent songs lately but nothing like their old stuff.
