“This is the end of every song that we sing… Where did it go?”
It was the first song they played on their most recent “Shows of a Lost World” Tour.
Will be released on September 26.

The forthcoming track is the lead single from the band’s upcoming album, Songs of a Lost World, which is set for release on November 1st. Rather than adopting a traditional marketing strategy for the new record, The Cure have undertook a gorilla approach to promoting the release. They began the album roll-out by delivering black postcards which were emblazoned with the title, Songs of a Lost World. The date, November 1st, 2024, is also listed in Roman numerals, representing the release date. Furthermore, The Cure hung a poster outside of The Railway Inn in Crawley. The pub played an important part in their history, as it was the venue of the very first concert. They’ve also shared footage on social media of Blackpool, the city where the band’s frontman Robert Smith was born. Before announcing the release of ‘Alone’, The Cure provided fans with a sneak peak at the song’s lyrics when they recently launched a new website and a WhatsApp channel ahead of the new release. Upon entering the website, fans must enter the Roman numerals on the postcards to reveal a new promotional artwork alongside an invitation to join the community WhatsApp group. Additionally, as soon as fans join the WhatsApp group, they are immediately sent lyrics from ‘Alone’, which reads, “This is the end of every song that we sing… Where did it go?” Now, the wait to hear ‘Alone’ is almost over as The Cure are set to premiere the new single on September 26th on BBC 6 Music. It will receive its first play during Mary Anne Hobbs’ programme on the station which starts at 10:30am and concludes at 1pm. The British rock group are expected to reveal more details about Songs of a Lost World during the broadcast.

Saw them headline at Sasquatch festival (RIP) at the Gorge 16 years ago. Was very cool seeing them in that setting.

FINALLY!!! The songs from the new album played on the tour were all very promising. Don't know how much they have left in them from a touring standpoint, but there's no denying they still sound amazing in the live format. Fat Bob can still bring it live vocally, too. Still can't believe all in the same calendar year I got to see New Order, The Cure, and Depeche Mode in NOLA.

I'm ready baw!
BTW, how often has a band toured a year or more in advance of the release of a new album and played 5-6 songs from it?

You have to really be in the right mood for it and just luxuriate in the gloom and feeling sorry for yourself. The weather has to be crappy, you have to be a little sad.
I bought the album with Christmas money, during my freshman year of college, when I was still living at home and most of my high school friends had left town. I listened to that record like crazy.
Last time I really got into it, it was just after Christmas and we had put a dog to sleep.

This is the best iteration of any song on that album. An under appreciated song, it just builds and builds...

I don’t agree
I could listen to Disintegration everyday. It’s Transformative, not depressing. Every song hits me a little different. Some harder and more significantly than others Brilliantly
The best Album ever written IMO
I think the new album will also be dark and gloomy but I hope it mixes in some upbeat songs also. 8 tracks I believe
Hard to believe it’s been since 2008 since we got new music.

I agree. Especially now, it reminds me of too many things from those 1989-1990 days.

One of the most fun things in parenting has been my teenage children getting into music over the years and my wife and I being able to rediscover bands we loved as our kids got into them as well.
Our whole family going to see the Cure on the last tour was magical.
Then they got into the Grateful Dead, and we got to go see Dead and Co.
Now my youngest is pushing for Billy Strings tickets for his 17th birthday.
I digress... this song is vintage moody the Cure. 3.5 minute instrumental intro into melancholy Robert. Just awesome.

The Cult Sonic Temple and Disintegration both came out around April of '89. That was a great summer of music.
I can listen to it but it reminds me of her. You know what I mean? I prefer Seventeen Seconds, Head on the Door, and Kiss me albums. But sometimes on a rainy afternoon, I can put it on.

Man this is such a good song. Really shows off Bobby’s guitar chops.
