Music boardians,

This is a turning point for the varsity theatre.

The addition of the flaming lips and givers at the varsity later this month is not some accident.

The varsity is about to do some great things with the new booking guy there...

I wonder if he's going to the new Lauberge. I hope they book more modern bands and not washed up bands from the 70s and 80s like Paragon.

Exactly... My guess is that the Chee Weez, Molly Ringwalds, and [insert generic and formulaic 80's cover band name here] will all find a happy new home at the casino... And will probably draw the same crowd they usually do. That's a good thing.

It makes ZERO sense (at least in my mind) for a club's promoter to not book touring bands that are already hitting New Orleans. Especially when that venue sits right outside the gates of a major university. Hopefully the new guy uses everything at his disposal to coax better, more relevant, and/or bigger name acts into performing there. The last guy managed to snag a few good acts, but it always seemed few and far between.

Heard the new guy, AB, really likes the nose candy. Which will, admittedly ,lead to better acts.

Lauberge has Kenny Rogers booked for December so I guess they're going the Paragon route and trying to appeal to the 50 and up crowd.

And the givers. Just think of the acts that are going to one eyed jacks now and picture them at the varsity where they have good acoustics.

Whoever he is needs to look at booking Super Water Sympathy. They are a good North La band. A double bill with Givers would be solid.

Galactic is actually playing at Lauberge at this very moment. For $10. Can't get any better than that.
