Boland is possibly the only artist who does not have a song that I don't like.

Understandable, I know several who feel the same. RR does that for me. I can't explain it, I just get bored with Boland after a few songs.

I can't believe REK isn't the consensus pick.

Early Ragweed is about as good as it gets for me. Their last 2 albums weren't what made them huge and the genre take root.

I LOVE Keen, but I'm more inclined to listen to RR daily.

I was initially inclined to think the same thing, but I'm not certain he can be classified in this genre. I don't know what genre he is associated with, but he has written and performed some of the best songs I've ever heard.

You can really throw him in like 4 genres that all bleed together.

Ever since I saw him play in a cowboy hat and New Balance, I hesitate to classify him.

This is the reason why he is one of my favorite musicians.

Well, he's not, he's Texas Country

Red Dirt describes the groups coming down to Texas from up in Oklahoma, like the Red Dirt Rangers, Ragweed, Boland, Stoney, etc

Specifying between Texas country and red dirt is ridiculous. Genres that are that specific are just retarded.

Jesus. So prerequisite #1 of Red Dirt is an Oklahoma birth certificate?

Oh good lord, sorry I ruffled your panties

No, you don't specifically have to have an Oklahoma birth certificate, but it's the origin of Red Dirt Music.

quote:

Red Dirt Music is a music genre that gets its name from the color of soil found in Oklahoma. Although Stillwater, Oklahoma is considered to be the center of Red Dirt music,[1] there's a Texas Red Dirt sound as well. Outlaws Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson are associated with that distinctive Texas sound while Bob Childers defines Oklahoma Red Dirt music. At one time the distinction between the two genres was obvious, but by 2008 that gap had diminished.[2]

You're the one that sounds mad

I'm just saying that to try to categorize music that is so similar into two different genres is foolish and apparently quite a few people agree with me.

My vote for GOAT is Robert Earl Keen Jr. My personal favorite is Stoney Larue.

I think of Red Dirt being a part of the greater Americana genre.

I also consider the acts from the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama as Red Dirt too. Often call it Red Clay.

Like all music genres it's usually a manifestation of a lifestyle/cultural expressions.
