Wait, did they invent the time machine and transport 1975 Clapton to play Jazz Fest?

ut he is undeniably one of the top-10 greatest guitarists to ever live, even if you don't love every iteration of his music like I do.

He is a very good guitarist. However, dude called him the greatest guitarist alive. To say undeniably top-10 is even a little much. He is one the top-10 blues guitarists. He is one of the top-10 popular guitarists. He may even be a top-10 guitarist, but naming a top-10 at something like that is pretty arbitrary and personal.

I enjoy quite a bit of his music, but this isn't 1975 or 1985 or 1995 or even 2005.

yea, kinda. I could sort of see that.

You know what I mean though. Is it going to be "good" Clapton stuff...or I Shot the Sheriff?

I'm sure he'll play a couple from Layla and some blues standards.

First Friday: Santana and Ruben Blades. Those two are well worth the price of admission. Overall, a pretty solid line up.

Quint Davis on out OutKast:

quote:

Jazz Fest did extend an offer to OutKast late last summer, Davis said. But he was told that the duo would pass through the New Orleans area in the fall of 2013, not the spring of 2014. OutKast's plans and tour routing eventually changed. By the time Davis learned OutKast had shifted to a spring schedule, it was too late: Another act had already been booked in the Jazz Fest slot originally intended for OutKast. "A lot of water had run under the bridge, and we were going in other directions," Davis said. And given the choice, Davis would rather have acts that aren't playing every other festival, even if securing them means a little extra stress. "I think OutKast is playing about 50 festivals. As it turns out, a lot of these people (on the Jazz Fest roster), at this point in time, are only playing here."

LINK

I know their festival tour is listed as spring/summer 2014, but I wonder of Voodoo as a chance.

I'd rather Outkast than any artist at JazzFest.

For those interested, this is an example of Robert Plant's setlist these days:

quote:

Babe I'm Gonna Leave You
Satan Your Kingdom Must Come Down
Spoonful
Going to California
Four Sticks
Fixin to Die
What Is and What Should Never Be
May I Have a Talk With You
Whole Lotta Love

I can't really see members of Phish sitting in for any of these.

Definitely not moe.

Anders Osborne is one of my current favorite artists, but I don't see a collab happening there. Although with Anders now playing in Phil Lesh & Friends, a connection is there. Maybe.

KatDelic- nah

For some reason I could see Gordo sitting in with The M&Ms.

Besides that Il Divo show, nothing has been announced for the Saenger. Could be some surprises forthcoming.

Mike Gordon was all over the place a few years back when he was in town for JF. I saw him at Tips playing with Wolfman/Krown who were opening for someone, can't recall.

He also played at the Maple Leaf one night as well. I do not remember much of that except for him being there.

I'm short on details.
