42 years ago, the Doobie Brothers at the new Baton Rouge Centroplex. This was the Minute By Minute tour featuring Michael McDonald on vocals. It would be the last tour for guitarist extraordinaire, Jeff "Skunk" Baxter and the first without original member, Tom Johnston. Soft rock band Ambrosia was the opener. This was the 2nd time for me to catch the band in 1978. The first show was with the Stones and a new band called Van Halen at the new Superdome.

Was that the tour the Commodores opened up for? I remember my dad having that Tour T-shirt with the map of the US on the back and all the stops.

Don't worry, you're not old tree, my dad was fairly young when I was born.

Ambrosia opened for this show, but it was common for headliners to have different openers in different cities. Could have been the same tour, not sure.

I remember a tour a couple years earlier. They were supposed to play at the Assembly Center. We sat through the opening act Gryphon, who had a bassoon player that fronted the band, then they announced that Johnston had an "illness" and they were cancelling the show. They did reschedule about 6 months later.

Interesting. They came back to the Centroplex merely 10 months later on the same tour. October of ‘79. Opening band named Night. The Doobies were great that night.

ETA: Man I’m so jealous you still have your ticket stubs. I had mine for years and somewhere along the way they went missing. Ugh. I started keeping them again once I started going to shows with regularity again as my kids got older. Got a nice little stack now but unfortunately actual real tickets are becoming more and more rare as we go.

My kids found them in a box and made me a desk with a glass top. They put all og them under the glass. One of the coolest gifts I ever received.

Hard to collect now as everything is digital. I still print out what I can to save tho.

Wow, I was at this concert too. 7th grade, first ever rock concert.

(I've been wrong all these years, thinking KISS was my first rock concert. Checked the dates; it was the Doobies!)

Was there. Do you remember which one of the band members passed out on stage? My brain was a tad smokey that night but I seem to remember he returned to the stage later in concert.

THIS was actually the show I saw (I remember Night being the opening band.)
Guess I wasn't so confused after all these years. KISS was my first rock concert after all!

Yeah, I wish I had saved all my ticket stubs...

went to that Doobies show for that tour in Huntsville, Al.
It seems like there was 1 more act that actually opened, and then Ambrosia then the Doobies, I can't remember who that opener was now. It might have been that La. Leroux band.

I remember going to the Doobie Brothers concert at the PMac back in the 70’s and the show was cancelled because Tom Johnston couldn’t come out onstage because he was too fricked up!

Doobies w/Tom Johnston >>>>>>> Doobies w/ Michael McDonald."

No doubt

I saw the Doobies for the first time off this tour and Firefall opened for them.

I remember Pat Simmons brought out a life sized cardboard cut out of Tom Johnston during the show in honor of Tom. It was funny, and a bit weird because it stayed up on stage through the rest of the show.
