Elliot Easton is often overlooked
Benjamin Orr also. Better vocals than Ocasek

1986 outside of Chicago at a venue called Poplar Creek
I absolutely love The Cars and was listening to their debut album earlier today.

Love The Cars. Loved that they had Moving in Stereo on stranger things.
Drive- was in a ton of movies back in the day
You might think I’m crazy- was video of the year
Just what I needed - their best song.

I was into The Cars so much that I even picked up their solo albums back in the day (vinyl). Ric's Beatitude, Easton's Change No Change, and Hawkes' Niagra Falls, and I still have them today. This was back in the day when you had your record store order it and it would take a few weeks to come in. The first two are on Spotify, but Niagra Falls is a rare find. Niagra Falls has a Kraftwerk on caffeine feel to it, mostly instrumental. You can find the album on YouTube.
I think it was back in 84ish when I saw them live for the first time at Alpine Valley, the same outdoor venue which Stevie Ray Vaughan played his last show before his untimely death. It was a fun show. Saw them years later at an arena and it was one of the most disappointing shows I've ever seen by any well established band. They played for just 45 minutes and I felt completely ripped off. I bet they were killer live back in the day at smaller clubs in Boston.
I believe that they had to draw on "clothing" onto the nude girl in the Vargas painting on Candy-O in order to distribute it.
David Robinson did not play any drums on the album Heartbeat City which pissed me off at the time. All of the drums you hear are electronic which was justified due to the intricacies of the keyboards, etc.
Elliot Easton is a left handed guitarist.
One of my favorite and most often overlooked albums is Panorama.

I listen to Candy-O regularly... for years now. Bummed I never got to see them live. Night Spots is probably my favorite Cars song of all time.

Loved them having it in Fast Times at Ridgemont High even more. Any guy who was a teenager in 1982 knows why.

The Cars are to me The Beatles of the 80s. Just perfect pop rock

Elliot Easton was really the secret sauce to The Cars success

On this day in 1984, The Cars released their fifth studio album “Heartbeat City” featuring singles “You Might Think" "Magic" "Drive" “Hello Again" "Why Can't I Have You" and album closer "Heartbeat City"

They were supposed to be incredible live
I saw them in BR around 1980-81. They performed well but they only played for an hour. To be fair, their catalog wasn't that extensive then but still...
The Motels were the opener and overall were much better than The Cars.
