What are your favorite songs that wrote?
Achilles Last Stand
Dancing Days
The Rain Song
Trampled Underfoot
Houses Of The Holy (the song on PG)
Carouselambra
In The Light
Wearing And Tearing
That's a few to start with.
I understand being sick to death of Led Zeppelin songs that are constantly played on the radio, but they put out far too much quality music to say that they had no songs that were worth a damn. They influenced a gazillion bands - maybe not quite the same amount as The Beatles, but they were damn influential.

I'm saying that they didn't write the majority of their songs.

kinda late here but...
as far as "holding up" I say a resounding yes. You can argue over the merits and quality of their catalogue but their place in music history is cemented. The aspect of being cultural icons of the era cannot be separated from the songs. Anyone alive in the 60s will relate to 3 essential questions...
Where were you when Kennedy was assassinated?
Ginger or Mary Ann?
Where did you watch the Beatles on Ed Sullivan?
I Wanna Hold Your Hand is a pop ditty of the era. Twist N Shout added some screaming that was primarily only found on 'race' records before. They continued on to 'Why Don't We Do It In The Road'. They and their songs were as close to being social statements of the times as you'll ever find. Perhaps more than you'll ever see again. Taxman, All You Need Is Love, Revolution, may seem innocuous now but they were cutting edge for then. They weren't the first but it was unbelievably influential when they introduced mind altering drugs through songs like I Am The Walrus and Tomorrow Never Knows.
We're really just coming to the end of the first generation of HiFi to Stereo artists ending. I think you'll see many artists works "hold up" better because of the quality of recordings. There may have been earlier performers greater than Elvis or Miles Davis (for example) but because of no or poor recordings they cannot be appreciated the same way. I think Hendrix leads and Beatles melodies will still be esteemed and appreciated centuries into the future cuz of this.

In that case, who wrote the Led Zeppelin catalog if wasn't written by Page/Plant/Jones/Bonham?

This isn't news. half of eveything in the zep catolog is either a nick or a cover. but that’s not the point – they ripped off a whole culture, a whole genre or two, and were self-indulgent egomanics to boot.

Has nothing to do with demeaning their music. More power to them.

So is all this anti-Beatle shite just whiners bitter that it's not Zep that's #1?
Posted on 6/30/12 at 5:15 pm to Kafka
I don't care if the Beatles are #1.
I still prefer Zepplin.

"what's the big deal with the Beatles, anyway?"
Nailed it. Never liked them and it's basically a fact that most people say they like them because it's the cool thing to do. Not a single person I know that claims to "absolutely love the Beatles" actually listens to their music on a regular basis. In fact I've yet to hear many of them listen to the Beatles at all.

If you were making this statement about the president I might agree with you. However, in regards to The Beatles, you can't back this up with anything but anecdotal support.
In my opinion, there seems to be an awful lot of Beatle fans, even on this board, who weren't even born when the band debuted (see how that works).

Oh, you mean after they began to suck. I see.
