Runaway Train
Somebody to Shove
Misery

Black Gold

Fun fact I just learned today.

21 of the people shown in the Runaway train video were found because of the video.

That's pretty cool.

Blind Melon the day Cobain died

God damnit! Watching shite like that and thinking about what could have been with Blind Melon. Shannon Hoon is one of my favorite artists of all time.

love that song

that song is proof that REM music in the 80's led us thankfully into the 90's

here's some Collective Soul, who would obviously be fans of both

Mother Love Bone was probably about to be huge when the singer died of an overdose. I can’t think of his name off the top of my head but he died either 2 months or 2 weeks before the bands first album was released. They would have probably been the first really big band to come out of Seattle and take the country by storm.

Matthew Wood was Mother Love Bone’s frontman.

I could not remember his name. Thank you for getting that on the record.

What I was talking about is that Mother Love Bone would have beat Nirvana to the punch. I’m not really a huge Pearl Jam fan but I did like some of MLB. I liked Ten by Pearl Jam but after that I just didn’t care much from them. A song or two here and there maybe. I preferred to hear Woods sing more Eddie just to be honest.

I gotta say, and history of the band proves this correct IMO, most people outside of Seattle who say they were big Mother Love Bone fans from 1988 to 1990, are lying their asses off and actually had never heard of them until Wood was dead

ETA: I actually know people IRL who are in their early
40's who pretend they were huge MLB fans before Pearl Jam

their first album was a local Seattle thing and wasn't even a year old when Wood died

I had heard of them when I was younger but can’t say I gave them a serious listen until later in life. Even that has been a long time ago. I haven’t listened to a MLB in a long time. I do remember reading their backstory a few years ago and that’s when I learned that Woods dies not very long before what would be I guess the biggest album they did was released. The song Man of Golden Words was probably my favorite by them.

same with me on Mudhoney - never heard of them until Nirvana gave them so much credit for influence, then became a fan of them after the fact

it's just funny to hear some people who talk about bands "they loved" and then you do the math and those people were 7 years old

I loved Zeppelin at that age, but Zeppelin was worldwide when I was that age, not some local sensation 2000 miles away

Out of all the Seattle grunge era bands my favorites was alway AIC and Soundgarden. I do not know how everyone else categorizes AIC but I have never considered them a grunge band but I will go along to get along and say they are on the board because I know some folks will wanna argue lol. I always thought AIC was just a straight up hard rock band that just got tossed in with all the grunge bands because they were from Seattle.

Well the whole grunge movement was pretty much contained to Seattle until Nirvana scores big. If MLB had not lost Woods I think they probably would get the credit for taking the grunge movement nationally.

even Nirvana cringed at the label "grunge"

it was a media term that some douchebag created I think

I love Nirvana, AIC, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and consider them all alternative rock

You are right about the whole “Grunge” label but when someone says Alt Rock that could be a band from anywhere in the country with a similar sound as the bands we are talking about. When you say grunge that kinda narrows the conversation down to the Seattle area. That why I used it even though Cobain would hate me right now lol.
