I’ll be honest, I really never got much out of Sturgill. I can’t hear his lyrics as he tries too hard to twang and his words all jumble together as loud mumbles. Listened to his first album but he’s pretty “meh” to ge honest. I hate the current state of Nashville and Cucktry but his recent attention whoring is almost just as bad.

His first two albums were great and his third was good. The fact that he’s coming across as a bitch and his 4th album was dog shite, he better bring it on his next one.

Totally agree with you. Don’t mind this though. The dude gets his ego stroked, we get some new music, and the Special Forces Foundation gets 500k

Why doesn't he make an album, then people buy the album, and he could donate the proceeds to his charity? It's been done that way before.

That’d seem to be the best way to do it rather than “I ain’t doin shite unless you donate half a million!”

Right, and I don't know about everybody else, but I quit giving to any charities. Not because I don't want to help them out, but if you do, they bug you to death from now on. Phone calls, mail, they never stop.

Probably not the best way to say that, on my part. It does seem quite a bit early in his career though to be so nonchalant and taking his audience for granted. That career can go away very fast.

Sound & Fury is dynamite.

It's the responses on topics like this that remindme just how gobsmackingly dumb so many Southerners are.

“Sturgill Simpson” is the latest and greatest combo of trigger words on this board.

The people shitting on him will still listen to the next album he puts out, then hate on it, talk shite about him, then listen to the NEXT one he puts out... better believe that.

Thats ironic because these threads always remind me how maga-ish this board is about sturgill

You can say some real mild shite and get your arse downvoted to death

His music is pretty bad but it’s always refreshing to see him go against the grain of his fan base’s way of thinking.

Dude you are just spitting out shite strictly because you don't like the guy (rightfully so). Just because you do not personally like him does not mean he is irrelevant. Sturgill is a country music artist with a refreshing sound that is touring and selling out arenas without ever pushing his songs on commercial radio (at least not to my knowledge). If this is considered not making it, then you have some insane standards.

I can't stand him. I think he's a self serving prick that can't shut his damn mouth up. I also buy all of his records, because he's a damn good musician. Not liking him does not make him a failure.

I honestly, have only ever heard 1 of his songs, and that was because somebody linked a video on here. I actually liked the song. It was a video that was a cartoon, showing a black muscle type car.
I know that he is popular, because I see posts about him on here. I do know that his success is pretty recent, as compared to a lot of other big acts. The types of people that had very long careers, and made music then thanked you for buying it and being a fan. You know, humble types, who realized that they were lucky, that you picked their record to buy.
Success can turn on a dime. If you have Garth Brooks type money, then by all means, do whatever you want. If you don't have that, and want a long career, I think it's better just to stay humble, thank the fans, and keep making the music that they keep buying.
Asking them to prove how they are your fans, doesn't seem like a very good idea.
If you don't like making music, and all that goes along with it, then you shouldn't be doing it. If you have songs that are ready to be recorded, and you have the means to do it, it seems like you would be chomping at the bit, to get it done. That's what it's all about.

but you're posting like you're some sort of expert?
you've heard one song from an album that was totally different from all of his others?

the point is he's "made it". He's critically acclaimed. he's sold tons of records. won all kinds of awards. all without any help of the nashville machine backing him and zero mainstream radio play. he did it his way and it worked quite well for him objectively. you saying he hasn't "made it" is pretty comical when by every measurable way he certainly has.

I didn't give any opinion on his music, except that I liked that 1 song a little bit, I don't think I even listened to all of it.

I just think he should make music, sell it and thank the people who buy it.
