SS announced Laur Joamets is leaving the band and that SS will take over on lead. SS is also dropping the horns.

We've been trying to keep it under wraps to avoid the inevitable rumor mill but last night's gig in Okeechobee FL officially marks the beginning of a new chapter. We're all very sad to say that after nearly four years Laur Joamets has decided it's time to move on to pursue greener pastures and a gig with little more wiggle room for him to stretch out. It's been a pleasure and an honor watching him grow into one of the baddest guitar players on the planet and everyone in the band wishes him the best in his future endeavors. To be completely honest, I realized last night how much I've missed playing electric guitar without even knowing it so I guess as they say, "it was time". I'm also proud to say that Little Joe recently became the proud owner of a US green card and is working towards officially becoming a "Muhrican". Everyone in the band wishes him the absolute best in both his life and career and we cant wait to see what he does with his incredible talents. It has also been an honor and a priviledge playing with the New Orleans horns boys (Brad Walker, Jon Ramm, Scott Frock) but sadly after touring nearly the entire world, every late night tv program and the Grammy's I felt it was time to move on from the sonic template of ASGTE and get started on "what's next". We all had a wonderful year with them and made some great friends for life. Who knows,..maybe I'll get an itching for the dirty brass again down the road. With all that said, gonna be keeping it lean & mean with Miles, Chuck, & Bob this year. After all,..heavy times calls for heavy music. See ya on the road!!

That sucks. Wonder who Laur is going to play with now?

The horns had run their course

I agree
That sound was cool but not what originally made SS have such a cult following
ASGTE is absolutely my least favorite SS album
Glad they are gone
Also not surprising that Laur is leaving. I feel like I knew it was coming. Sad to see him go. I know SS can play but LJ is truly amazing

The guy can legit play anything. Kudos on the Green Card, as well. Not that hard to do things properly, is it?

Loved Sailors Guide and the horns, but I'm stoked to hear this. The shows coming up are going to rock so hard!

Sturgill is no slouch on a Telecaster.

Actually, for most people, it's really hard, and usually takes years. It depends on a number of factors though, such as country of birth, profession, type of green card, etc.

Yeah. Only takes playing in a Grammy award winning artist's band. Anyone should be able to do that!
Dumb post.

sucks to hear, but they were transcending country music like they always said, and it's time for them to really get back on the guitar

He's talking about going through the legal process id imagine. It's not a hard process.
I didn't care for the horns. Little joe was a hell of a player though but things change and run their course. Sturgill likes change from the looks of it.

I really liked ASGTE but hope he gets back to the direction of his first album. Either way I hope he has some new stuff released this year.

the wait is the "hardest" thing about it. other than that, what is "hard" about getting a green card?

False.

I love the fact that Sturgill doesn't corner himself. It keeps the sound fresh. More guitar is never a bad thing.
The horn section got paid dearly when he signed with Atlantic. Now those boys have wiggle room for their own projects.
A win for all.

That sucks. I always liked his band better than his voice.

Wow. I got faith in Sturgill. He has yet to let me down

Joe is good people. One of my friends is fairly close with him and he has always been pretty chill every time we have hung out. I wish him the best.

I like this decision. I want Sturgill harder and Louder. Much louder than what I saw at the Saenger.
