What are y'alls thoughts about SCI experimenting more with their EOTO counterparts? I personally dig it, but from what I've been seeing on forums and YouTube comments is that a lot of their fans are pissed they don't stick to the bluegrass jams.

Recent examples:
SCI - EOTO Jam>Rollin' Into My Sweet Baby's Arms (same jam from Joyful Sound>San Jose at this years Hangout)

SCI - Desert Dawn dubstep ending (07/05/12 at Red Rocks)

Not a huge SCI fan, but respected them as a jam band that made some pretty good music. Why they would experiment with dubstep is beyond me.

One would have to think that with the rise in molly intake, that they are just pandering to the crowds...I guess I give them props for trying to expand as a band, but it's like watching Bob Dylan try gangsta rapping. Weird as frick

Pretty much how I feel. And I'm pretty impartial as far as SCI goes. I appreciate their music, but I don't love it. I just hate to see another solid band change what they do to fit what's "in" right now.

This seems to be true with everything these days. Everything is using EDM and Dub Step inspired stuff these days.

Got me thinking. What are some other "fads" that caused bands to imitate the style?
Springsteen throwing in new wave style tunes in the 80's comes to mind

Both the punk and metal genres influenced some rock in, what I would consider, a negative way. I think those movements deserve a lot of the blame for the lack of good rock from mainstream bands.

Metal also influenced some fantastic rock in amazing ways that progressed music. Your statement is true of any genre that came before any other genre.

This is where your logic fails you. Quality does not define what is mainstream. FRIDAY FRIDAY FRIDAY. Until you turn off the radio and start really accessing the depths of music truly available to you, you'll continue to think this. String Cheese Incident are just trying like hell to stay relevant, hence the pandering.

I dig it, man. I dig it. Let those guys tinker around for a bit with this and watch what happens. It's not like they put their instruments down or something. People should stop acting like they are actually playing dubstep. It's just influenced from that. They are still picking and jamming. Let em evolve.

I was at their hangout set. I don't like the new sound. I enjoyed the shows I went to back in the early 2000s
