and I just want to add, jambands were of their time, much like a lot of music. I know Phish is still touring, as well as moe., string cheese, panic, bisco, etc. But if you were a 18-25 year old in 1995 the music means more to you because of the experiences you had. That was the good music back then.
Phish is still good. But look around at the next show. A large portion of the crowd is in their mid-30s. That doesn't appeal to the Mutemath or Linkin Park crowd.
I still enjoy listening to the Grateful Dead. But I understand there is a limit to how much someone can like them without actually experiencing their live show, which was something very special and unlike anything else in modern music.

Mogwai, Primus

He really acts like he is some music industry executive when in reality he is just some hipster whose band never made it.

His a-hole quotient seems to have risen in the last year or so for some reason. Not sure why.
And it's hilarious to observe people arguing over the definition of a jam band as if it's a clearly defined and commonly agreed upon term.
"Jamming" goes back generations as most of us know. It's absurd, really, to think of it as a specific genre, imo. Although I think we'd all agree that you can call Phish a jam band. Or Widespread Panic? Maybe? frick I really hate most of them so I really don't care.

its quite sad actually. and this is coming from a "musician" of all people.
he's the kind of guy who turns his radio down at a stop light bc he doesn't want some complete stranger judging him on what type of music GENRE he is listening to. These labels are obviously very important to him bc it determines how loud he can listen to music w/o being judged and labeled.

I mean, I've only been listening to Primus since about 1992 and les claypool was a huge influence to me as a bassist.
Is Oysterhead a jam band?

So what do you think about your self proclaimed hero Les Claypool sitting in with the dreaded jamband Phish multiple times and even starting a side project with Trey Anastasio?
