Toto was straight up loaded with talent. Luke and (Jeff) Porcaro were arguably the best session guitarist and drummer in that L.A. scene at the time they were also running Toto.

They were Quincy Jones' secret weapons and, in particular, they "fixed" a lot of the Thriller production challenges that came up, especially "Beat it."

And, Luke is one of the most down to Earth guys and best storytellers of that era as well.

Lukather hates having to play/sing 99. I think that it's their best song.

I'm not sure if they ever toured the States of if they just toured Japan but back in the 80s Jeff Beck, Carlos Santana, and Steve Lukather did a tour together. There used to be YouTube videos of a show in Japan. Don't know if they are still up or not.

Lukather does a killer guitar solo on of all things,Lionel Ritchie's "Running With The Night".

So, is this sort of a way of telling us you didn't click on the link in the OP without telling us you didn't click on the link in the OP?

I agree 1,000% ... the Porcaro brothers; Jeff, Mike, and Steve were insanely talented in everything they did.
Jeff even played drums on Pink Floyd's Mother .

And obviously Beat it, Michael Jackson, but also:

Bad Sneakers - Steely Dan
Lowdown - Boz Scaggs
Calling Elvis - Dire Straits
Human Touch - Bruce Springsteen
Running with the Night ( ) - Lionel Richie
Living Eyes - Bee Gees
What a Fool Believes (Doobie Brothers cover) - Aretha Franklin

...and hundreds of others. More so than even Russ Kunkel, Hal Blaine, Jim Gordon or Roger Hawkins, when folks think of the 70s - 80s drum "sound", at least as to rock and roll, they're probably thinking of Jeff Porcaro without even realizing it.

Also Lukather plays the rhythm guitar (that awesome muted sound) and Porcaro plays the drums on Michael McDonald's 'I Keep Forgettin.'

Another great solo that I'm pretty positive Lukather played was "She's a Beauty" by the Tubes.

I looked at the wiki and it's certainly possible - Luke cowrote the song and played guitar on the album.

He is touring with Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band. Going to see them in North Little Rock October 12. Each band member typically performs three of their hits.

I had the thought a month or so ago that I would like to see Ringo if I had the chance, and they announced that date. They're not coming anywhere else close to here except Thackerville, OK.

Ringo is 82, so you might not want to wait for the next tour.
