Picking up some Steve Earle tickets for a September show. I love his stuff and have for decades, but haven't ever seen him live.
Who has seen him live before...and how was the show?

I have not seen him live, but this is as good a place as any to expose people to Galway Girl

Love some Steve Earle, only seen him once when he did a solo show at Cactus Music here in Houston. Got to meet him and talk to him for a little while. Really nice guy.

I had front row tickets to see him 2 years ago, and had to go out of town at the last minute. Gave them to a buddy of mine who is a Steve Earle nut...he said it was a great show.
Speaking of Cactus Music...I love this song, and it is a great video of him up close.

That was the one I went to...I was over on the left there, and posted some videos of the show as well. He jammed out Copperhead to end it

I saw him at the Civic in NOLA a year or two ago.
Songs were great, great storyteller, but 70% of his talking is super political. If you can get past that, it's a good show.

Saw him a few months ago... I enjoyed the show. It was at Gruene Hall so he was playing into the party atmosphere. My dad saw him a few weeks later at the Manship and said he was much better.

Saw him years ago and just a few months ago at a in store set at Good Records. He does talk a lot and I think he could cut down on that and play more.

Saw him twice. Once in Dallas solo (for his Washington Square album tour) and once in New York about a year ago (Robert Earl Keen opened up).
Honestly, I thought he kinda sucked live both times. But that sort of coincides with his last few albums sucking in my opinion. He rambles about politics a lot too which can be really fricking annoying cause his ideas are rather trite.
But honestly, don't take my word for it. You may love it. There were certainly some enjoyable moments to the shows I saw (I loved when he played Jericho Road in Dallas years back).

That's pretty cool. That's a cool store. At least it was years ago when I would go there.

Still is. I can walk to it so I see a lot of free shows there. Plus they always have a keg from which the free beer flows like a well turned cliche.

Bad arse. I never got to experience a live show or free beer there.
Did Earle only play stuff off of his new album? I haven't listened to it yet.

He played some old stuff.....closed with Copperhead Road. And he played a Townes Van Zandt cover...Rex's Blues followed by Earle's Ft. Worth Blues.

Better be ready for some liberal propaganda. He's worse than Neil Young from what I hear.

Check your politics at the door, but he's a great songwriter with a super catalog. Haven't seen him since "The Revolution Starts Now" tour but he was great back then

Hardcore Troubadour: The Life and Near Death of Steve Earle
This is a fantastic book to read if you're a fan of his. Unbelievable stuff about his life.

I have a friend who got Steve Earle: In Quotes for Christmas. I had never seen it before. He also got Prine on Prine (The quotes of John Prine) which has been out of print for 20 years.
