The oldest known existing recording is by Appalachian artists Clarence "Tom" Ashley (with Gwen Foster) who recorded it for Vocalion Records in 1934.[3] Ashley said he had learned it from his grandfather, Enoch Ashley

Most people I know, do not know that "Blinded by the Light" is a Springsteen song. They think it's a Manfred Mann original.

Another song originally by Springsteen "Atlantic City" was covered and released by The Band, and IMO they did a better job with the cover. Didn't realize it was a Springsteen song though. Dude could write one hell of a song.

Once in a blue moon I'll hear the Springsteen version, but yeah, it's only till you listen to the words and think about his writing style that you say.
