Just about any Deep Purple song. Ian Paice is one of those drummers that crossed the goal line into the world of greatness.

Steely Dan's AJA with Steve Gadd on drums. Epic song on a brilliant album. Still gives me goose bumps when listening to it. That sax and drum interplay really gets my blood pumping.

Sloppily awesome or awesomely sloppy?

Doesn't matter - some of my favorite non-timekeeping drumming of all time.

Well, the band is named for the rhythm section (with all gratitude to Pete Green.)

Many jaded folks take all that talent for granted, get dismissive because the songs are really commercial and then, BAM, a great bass line or drum fill hits and you remember, "Regardless, these cats can play - the guitarist, the keyboardist, bass and drums." A great, great band, regardless of what one thinks of the songs or the gal singer.
