Piano Man is more folk/country oriented, not as pop as the Stranger. Love the combination of piano, acoustic guitars & banjo on that album.

That’s what makes it so good.

The Stranger is great but the grittiness of Piano Man is what makes it great. Turnstiles is great before the Stranger.

Streetlife Serenade is exceptionally underrated. I love that album despite being overlooked and panned by critics and even Billy Joel himself a bit.

I like 'Somewhere Along the Line' better.
It's got a relaxing Parisian experience feeling to it.

Piano Man might be the most overrated Billy Joel song out there (at least that is not on the An Innocent Man album). I'm not saying it is a bad song but I wouldn't put it in a top 25 list of Billy Joel songs. Of course I worked as a cook in a bar when I was in college and heard groups of drunken frat boys try to sing it at least once a week for two years so that might have something to do with my opinion of it.

Coincidentially he released an "official" video of that song today 09/30/21. Not sure why after all these years, probably a marketing strategy. Cool video tho.

It’s to help promote his upcoming vinyl box set.

I was looking at his Wikipedia pages yesterday and yeah I thought I knew he had a lot of hits, but damn - almost 30 hits over 20 years.

Yep, something like 33 'Top 40' hits. I cannot think of another artist having more hits, probably Elton John has more.

Also in 2001 he recorded classical music. Bought the cd back then but put me to sleep very quickly.

Billy Joel channel is back on SiriusXM. Great channel for hearing him tell stories regarding how he came to write some of his songs, etc.
