Does anybody know where The Kingfish club in Baton Rouge was located? I am under the impression that it was the present site of The Bulldog in B.R. Before is was the Bulldog, I believe it was the first site of Uncle Earl's, which has since obviously moved. The Bulldog is located in Southdown Mall at 4385 Perkins Rd. Was this the address? Does anybody remember seeing The Pistols at The Kingfish in 1978 ?

Yes. In Southdowns Shopping Center. If you're standing looking at the Bulldog, it was immediately to your left. It was a bunch of different clubs after the Kingfish, and most of them hosted some very good musical acts in the late '70's and early-to-mid '80's. The location was a Food Town grocery store before it was a live music club.

I didn't see the SP there, but saw the Psychedelic Furs, Rare Earth, Steppenwolf, Iggy Pop, Guadalcanal Diary, Eric Johnson, The Divinyls, Wall of Voodoo, and a host of other bands at that location. The Talking Heads played there as well, but I did not see them.

Don't know. May be part of the Bulldog. I know after it's run as multiple music clubs, it was a Gold's Gym. I'm going down Perkins Road today, and you've piqued my curiosity. That area has changed quite a bit since I grew up there in the '60's & '70's.

ETA: Just did a Google search. It's a Spectrum Fitness Center/Pilates Plus location.

And Frank Zappa for one song.

It was definitely the same location as Uncle Earls back in the 80s and 90s, which is now the Bulldog. I remember being awestruck when I got old enough to go to bars that Uncle Earls still had the Huey Long mural intact in the back by the pool tables. The same mural that was in back of the stage in the iconic photos of the Kingfish show.

I applaud you, detective, although I understand Kingfish was next to Uncle Earls, and not the same location. I called up Smiley Anders at a Baton Rouge newspaper and asked him some questions several months ago. I thought I reached a dead end until I found this website. I went to LSU 87-91, even saw Shaquille and the great Chris Jackson play, and remember Uncle Earls opening up (?) (maybe its second location) but never cared to go because I was a Murphys/Fred's guy. I went to Tabby's Blues Box, Art Bar, the Varsity, Bayou Bar, the Caterie, the Happy Note, but would have loved to have hung out at Kingfish back in the day. Would have loved to have seen The Police and The Meters. Poppa Funk, you rule in Heaven !

This is correct. Kingfish and Uncle Earls where in the corner adjacent to each other. Uncle Earls had cypress walls and smelled like an old hunting lodge and they served nickle raw oysters. Kingfish had 99 cent concerts: Head East, Todd Rundgren, Edgar Winter Group, Starcastle, Eddie Money, many more......when doing rails on the table while the band played was acceptable.

ETA: Fun fact - The Jeff Pollard Band was the house band at the Kingfish. They would eventually end up becoming the band "Leroux".

I was there. It was the best $3.50 I ever spent. I saw so many incredible acts there over the years. Here's the recording of the Pistols at The Kingfish:
