Selling a Guitar (pictures updated to OP)
I don't know much about selling guitars or what the prices would be. I am selling a 1989 gun metal blue strat. I have researched and it was made in the Corona California factory. What is the best place to sell it and what would be a ballpark estimate of what I could get for it?

I would be willing to sell it to anyone on this board as well if you wanna help a brother out

re: Selling a Guitar (pictures updated to OP)
Mint condition: $1700 -$2000 (depending)
Excellent + condition: $1100
Excellent condition: $850
Very good +: $675
Good: $425

Depending on if it comes with a case too..
All this is speculation though, need to know if there was more to it.

Try ebay or reverb

It doesn't have a case, however, it is in excellent condition if I had to guess. How long does it usually take to sell on reverb?

Depends really, but an American Strat is something that is sought out by people. Living in or by a decent city helps cause it has a "search local" function that is decent and fun. Which allows for local pickup option too.

Id go for both, see which one bites first.

Believe they have some type of price history you can check for the most poplar guitars.

Why are you selling it? I would price somewhere between $850 and $1100 depending on condition. American Strats are beloved guitars, but they’re not rare, and ones from that era aren’t especially sought after. Heck, new ones without too many added bells and whistles go for around $1200-$1400, so just be thankful that it’s an asset that didn’t depreciate too much. I literally just bought a newish American tele like 2 weeks ago.

The last guitar I bought was from reverb, worked out a deal with the seller and got a $1600 guitar for $900 and some pedals I didnt use anymore.

And my studio monitors. When I'm in gear buying mode though I will turn to reverb first these days.

re: Selling a Guitar (pictures updated to OP)
I’m selling it because i’m broke, in college, and trying to pay for my ski trip. It was given to me as a gift when i used to play a bunch, but I haven’t touched the thing in 3 years. I’m just trying to sell it as quick as possible but i’ve been researching and I’ve basically been told that I shouldn’t go to pawn shops or to a guitar center because I will get boned on the price. I’m trying to sell it for 750+ but will be willing to negotiate

I get that. A college ski trip with your friends sounds much better than a guitar you don’t play anymore. I took one trip like that my last year of law school and apparently caught the flu from my SO right before I left. I spent the whole trip near death stuck on the couch and loopy from fever and medication. I hope you have a better experience

Haha I hope I do, I would rather sell it to a baw from TD if they were willing to buy than using reverb or ebay

I don't know about ebay, but if you're trying to sell fast on reverb I'd throw it up there for $750 and take $700 if offered. Maybe with the color you could bump it up to $850, but there are a lot of those strats in black and other basic colors on reverb for $800 that have had price drops from $1000 because no one was biting.

Unless it's a 62 or 57 reissue, I'd say $800 at most. Unless the color gives a little bump.

I’ll give you 450 for it today if you can provide pics proving the condition.

If coming to CO, I’ll sweeten that deal with the devils lettuce from my company when you get here. 7 Stores in/around Denver. You just let me know.

As far as pics, when you get serious and pick the selling site, go to Reverb. Just to look at how those guys take pics and what they take pics of. It will help a lot in your sale. And as mentioned back of the headstock is a must. The bridge/trem looks American but plenty of people are full of shite out there.

You guys want pics of the back of the headstock ... if it's a gun metal blue '89 American Standard as it has been identified and as it appears to be, the SN I'm almost positive will be on the FRONT of the headstock. Silver non-spaghetti logo I seem to recall.

Insider tip from a guy who plays Strats of all eras frequently ... that era of AMSTs absolutely kick ass. I had a maple board gun metal blue '87 I think it was. The stock pickups are incredibly balanced tonally, unharsh and are horridly underrated. I'd take them over Texas Specials in a heartbeat, no hesitation whatsoever.

My strat has that same kind of tailpiece and I love it. Highly recommended.
