One of the very leaders of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal with the young, raw Armored Saint opening. Amazing show. Crazy to think that Saxon stood on that stage on fricking Donmoor Dr in BR. My buddy and I were up front at the rail. Hell of a show.

The great thing for me was I already knew very well about Armored Saint too and was a huge fan. This was their Delirious Nomad tour. They were fantastic.

Only thing that sucked was that it fell on the same night as LSU vs Purdue right there in Baton Rouge as well on the first night of March Madness. They actually announced the final score of the game in between Armored Saint and Saxon. I knew I was dying to know but I thought it would be greeted with yawns by the crowd. There was a huge cheer though that LSU won. Very cool.

And then Saxon came on and fricking killed it. At one point Biff said between songs “You know what I hate? I hate disco!” Then he looked down and pointed at me asked “Are you a disco fan?” He clearly knew the answer before he asked me because I had been headbanging from the start. LOL.

My buddy and I met Armored Saint afterward too out in the parking lot by their bus. They were good dudes and very complimentary of the crowd. The drummer Gonzo said pretty emphatically “Louisiana fricking rules!!”

Good times!!!

RIP Dave Prichard. Armored Saint lead guitarist. Dude was fantastic. He died just four years later of Leukemia at the age of 27. So damn young.

Saxon's still at it. Saw them open for Judas Priest a couple years back. They put on a good show, would love to have seen them in their prime.

Yep. I knew they were opening for Priest and wish I could’ve caught that one. Didn’t come anywhere near me though unfortunately.

Nice!!

For whatever reason I didn’t expect any posters here to have attended. Not sure exactly why, I guess because it was a pretty under the radar show for someone of Saxon’s stature.

Great show

Indeed it was!

I saw Saxon open up for Priest at the Bomb Factory in Dallas about 3 years ago. They were much heavier than I expected them to be. Very underrated band.

I’d pay good money to see Saxon now. I’m a young fan and have only been into them for about a decade. But man does their music shred.

Was John Bush the front man for Armored Saint at this show? I don’t know much about the band’s history, but I really enjoyed Bush’s work with Anthrax.

Saw them open for Iron Maiden in ‘83. They were amazing. One of my favorite bands. Hell, Fastway was on the card, too. Was a helluva show!

Yes. Complete with his long hair. He was the original vocalist and is actually the only vocalist the band has ever had. He joined up with Anthrax when Armored Saint broke up and then reunited with them later when Joey came back on the scene with Anthrax.

I saw Saxon at the Bronco Bowl in DFW in, I think '82. Accept was the opener. It was a rockin' show and heads were bangin'...

Sweet. Bush is a bad-arse vocalist. I’ve not listened to much Armored Saint, but he does laps around Joey Belladonna when it comes to Anthrax, in my view. I always dug him and lost interest in Anthrax after he left the band.

Hirsch Coliseum, Shreveport. Drove up from LSU. Only concert I ever saw there. Damn, we need to start another concert ticket stub thread. Got some buried treasures around somewhere.

I’m a thrash metal fanatic but I fully admit John Bush era Anthrax is way better than Joey Belladonna era Anthrax.

I’ve worked in Dallas a couple of times in recent years. Wish I had seen a show here at some point but I haven’t. Just Trees and Gas Monkey Live. The bands that play there, the things I’ve read, and the photos I’ve seen indicate to me that it’s a pretty sweet venue. I mean with a name like The Bomb Factory it seems like foregone conclusion.

If I get around to replying to it, will be included in my top five concerts seen. Headline show at The Saenger Theatre in August 1985. They were utterly amazing.

He is badass indeed. Here are a couple of their best songs from the early 80’s IMO...

Can U Deliver

Kinda cheesy video and they ditched the costumes decades ago. At least these were better than spandex.

Long Before I Die

Cool trivia fact for you... In the early 80’s Metallica were seriously looking to hire a lead singer, as James wasn’t confident in his vocal ability and he preferred to focus more on guitar. It didn’t happen obviously but Bush was the man they wanted. Bush was loyal to his bandmates though and passed. He’s the only one they considered and they really wanted him.

Here he is singing with Metallica in 2007. James tells the story first.

Four Horseman with John Bush on vocals

Sidenote. Lars is quite a douchebag with his interjections during James’ introduction. Shocking.

JAX,
The Bomb Factory is the best music venue in Dallas & it isn't even close. The guy who owns Trees completely rebuilt it almost from scratch & it's amazing what they did with it. You have to go to a show there once they start having shows again. Great sound, great sightlines anywhere in the venue & a great set up for the merch area. It's pretty easy to get drink wherever you are in there. I'm dying to get in a balcony suite there.
