quote:
Mick Taylor on drums
According to Glyn Johns him fiddling with drums is what helped get him kicked out of the Stones.

57 years ago Brian Jones passed
“Peace, peace! he is not dead, he doth not sleep —
He hath awakened from the dream of life —
‘Tis we, who lost in stormy visions, keep
With phantoms an unprofitable strife,
And in mad trance, strike with our spirit’s knife
Invulnerable nothings. — We decay
Like corpses in a charnel; fear and grief
Convulse us and consume us day by day,
And cold hopes swarm like worms within our living clay”

Per one biographer, the Stones never paid their Muscle Shoals bills
Posted on 7/13/26 at 10:43 pm to Kafka
They paid in cash the 2nd day of recording not to have a paper trail. Being a foreign group, they weren't supposed to be working and touring at the same time. Because of this, they secretly traveled to Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Alabama, while touring in order to record "Brown Sugar", "You Got To Move" and "Wild Horses".

I'm not really familiar w/Goat's Head Soup.
Is it underappreciated?

It's very good. I'd say it's underappreciated.
Angie, Silver Train, Dancin with Mr D, Heartbreaker, Star Star, Winter... all solid tunes.

Grist for the gossip mill (I still don't know what "grist" is):
I recently read that Mick and Keith were considering firing Brian as early as 1965.
Think about the ramifications of that. At a minumum, it means we would not thave "Under My Thumb" as we know it today.
But the really interesting rumor I heard was that when M&K were taking steps to begin the process of dunping Brian in the spring of 1969, they were also thinking about firing Bill.
Why I don't know. By this point Bill was apparently Brian's most (only?) sympathetic ally in the band, so that may have been a reason.

Yea, they did make some great stuff while Brian was in the group. I can't imagine they would have been as prolific without Brian. ...or Bill for that matter. Listen to his bass playing on Exile. He was fantastic.
I never heard this before. Thanks for sharing.
I did hear that Bill was pretty much an outsider within the group. I think he took up with Brian due to that.
