One of the best songs to come out of the 90’s grunge era... Don’t @ me

Your opinion sucks just because you went "dont @ me" like a child.

I always look at AIC as more metal than grunge, but yeah great song. As was nearly all the rest of their catalog w/ Layne.

Jerry is a very underrated songwriter.

I'll agree that the era after Nevermind was the "grunge" era and that AIC are from the Pacific Northwest.

But, they are much more of a traditional heavy metal outfit, but with grunge sensibilities than a true grunge act.

That's quibbling because you can say the same thing about Soundgarden.

They were sort of a bridge between the two, it made for a good blend if you have the right people involved

It’s overplayed for me. Doesn’t mean it’s not a great song, though.

It's a good song, but Would? Is not only the best song on that album, I'd put it as one of the best from the 90s. It's perfectly paced, and as soon as it hits the crescendo, its over, leaving you wanting more.

On a side note I started a thread for this the other day, the new Album has a full length video movie being released song by song. It's pretty damn good.

Episode 1 (The One You Know)

Episode 2 (Rainier Fog) NSFW

Episode 3 (Red Giant)

The girl in it is a smokeshow.

Dirt is one of the most underrated metal albums of all time.

My favorite tunes from it are Junkhead and Dirt (I can't hear one without the other). Powerful stuff.

From the iTunes Editor's Notes on the album:

Their last two albums have been friggin great.

The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here is my favorite AIC album. Dirt is a close second.

I never took "grunge" as a genre. It was a switch from the party music of the 80's to more introspective lyrics that actually combined several musical styles. It was the last "find yourself" movements in the USA.

I'm mostly in this camp. "Grunge" as defined by Nirvana, Pearl Jam and the other NW-area bands captured by this "net" was heavily influenced by the suits trying to market something.

Certainly the NW aesthetic was different than the LA-based "glam" metal (or hair metal, if you will), but "grunge" was still heavily guitar focused, detuned, distorted and all of that was consistent with the heavy metal/hard rock genres of the 2 previous decades. Those acts tended to eschew the trappings of rock stars and even drifted away from traditional song structure of the heavy metal and hard rock genres, notably ditching guitar solos at various points.

But, grunge was just a name for the suits to call these acts once Nirvana sold a gillion copies of Nevermind, IMHO.

I mean, rock was losing a war to hip-hop and pop during this time, so they had to do something, right?

These days I find myself listening to the post-Staley albums way more than the ones that feature him.

Rainier Fog is a really awesome record.

I actually listen to Cantrell's Degradation Trip more than any post-Lane AIC.

It is almost another AIC album itself.
