Mercury...better pitch and range. Better schooled and a gifted vocal arranger who sang many of his own harmony parts. Often times those parts were arranged so closely together that being able to hear the difference in the notes to even sing them took amazing ability.

Freddie wrote more, had mastered an instrument, and had the better voice. Gonna go with Freddie.
That said, Plant was a better vocalist for Zep than Freddie would have been, and Freddie was a better vocalist for Queen than Plant would have been.

No way anyone has a valid or winning argument against Mercury being no. 1 in this contest unless it's for influence. When ears first heard Plant's voice on the first two Zeppelin albums, it was mind-blowing the power he brought to the table. He helped make millions Zep fans almost overnight, however he declined in such quality as the band progressed and Freddie remained the same and in some ways enhanced his vocal abilities in the context of his band. In terms of commanding a stage, NO ONE rivaled FREDDIE MERCURY.

It seems my opinion is very unpopular
Regardless, plant is one of my favorites ever and I like him way more than Mercury, I like what my ears are hearing better when I hear plant. I don't care how legendary and good Mercury was. That is my opinion and I am sticking to it.

There's nothing wrong with preferring to listen to Led Zeppelin over Queen.
But I don't think Robert Plant would be able to sing Queen songs and hit the notes/harmonies that Freddie could. I don't know if anyone could. I'm pretty sure Freddie could fill in for Plant and sing any Zeppelin song perfectly.

You're leaving out 1/2 of the population. Straight women love Freddie Mercury. Freddie was fascinating, intriguing, mysterious, provacative and sexy. Behind that amazing, powerfully beautiful voice and omnipotent talent was an enigma. Freddie took his secrets with him. Larga vida a La Reina/Long live the The Queen

And I think Robert Plant's best songs (whether it be part of Led Zep or his own songs such as Angel Dance) blow away anything that queen came out with...in my opinion of course.

Plant said as much at the Freddie Mercury Tribute, when he pointed out the fact that many of the songs performed had the keys changed (***lower***) because a lot of the singers simply couldn't hit the notes.
R.P. did sing Innuendo and Crazy Thing in the original key that night, though.
