Damn. I just listened to “Magic”, “Moving in Stereo” and “Stay the Night” (Benjamin Orr solo). Those dudes were very talented and called it quits too early. The Cars will always be remembered as one of the great late 70’s and 80’s bands and without Ric Ocasek, The Cars would never have happened.

one of a kind. not only as a songwriter, musician, poet and singer, but as a producer. had one hell of a life.

quote:

Bad Brains' Rock for Light and Guided by Voices' Do the Collapse. His other production credits include Weezer's Blue Album and Green Album (both multi-platinum), Suicide,[19] Romeo Void, Hole,[19] Bebe Buell,[20] No Doubt,[19] Nada Surf, Irish folk-punk band Black 47, Bad Religion, Johnny Bravo, D Generation, The Wannadies, Possum Dixon, Martin Rev, Jonathan Richman, and the 2006 album by The Pink Spiders titled Teenage Graffiti. He also produced a portion of the third Motion City Soundtrack album, Even If It Kills Me. In 2014, Ocasek produced Everything Will Be Alright in the End, the ninth studio album by Weezer and his third collaboration with the band, and For All My Sisters, the sixth album by The Cribs.[21]

Literally just looked him up yesterday to see what he was up to after hearing a Cars song I hadn't heard in a while. Another great one gone.

A melodic and phrasing genius. He knew how to deliver a song. And to my 13 year old ears in 1979, completely different than anything else going on at the time . Those first two albums “ The Cars “ and “ Candy O” in particular have stood the test of time. I revered those two albums and then kind of lost interest except for a song here and there.

RIP RIC.

“Tonight She Comes” came on Music Choice last night and i was thinking just how special The Cars are in rock history as a pop-rock standard bearer. Just a tremendous, good-time, dance around, fun, and trend-setting rock band. A true one of a kind act.

RIP Ric. A truly unique talent and frontman

Synths and guitars. Revolutionary stuff. Was excited to hear they were getting inducted last year. At least he lived to see it!

Night Spots

I grew up liking punk rock. The Cars made it easy to like new wave.

Hard to believe that he was the same age as Keith Richards.

Not a bad run (75) for a rock and roll guy, but still too soon. He split up with Paulina last year that I'm sure was only partially offset by the rock HOF induction.

One of the better lyricists of that era, for sure. Underrated compared to, say, Sting, Debbie Harry or David Byrne.
