quote:
Michael Nesmith, singer and guitarist with 1960s pop group The Monkees, has died at the age of 78.
The quartet rose to fame with a string of hit songs and starred in their own popular TV sitcom.
Nesmith, from Texas, penned songs like Mary, Mary; Circle Sky; Listen to the Band; and The Girl I Knew Somewhere.
In a statement to US media, his family said he "passed away this morning in his home, surrounded by family, peacefully and of natural causes".

Watching re runs of the Monkees with my mom is one of my fondest childhood memories. Loved that show/band so much that my first ever stuffed animal was named Peter

That GTO convertible Station wagon was the coolest thing ever. The whole show was cool though.

I saw Michael at the Blackham Coliseum in Lafayette in the early 70's.
Opening act was Linda Ronstadt. I don't remember much of the concert.
Linda was asking for the flash bulbs to stop and when they didn't she flipped off the photographers. I seem to remember the yearbook capturing that moment.

Dude inherited over $25 million from his mom, who invented Liquid Paper.
