Rick Beato: The Most COMPLEX Pop Song of All Time

This Video (youtube) popped up as suggested for me last night.
Pretty interesting, with how Rick breaks down the chords and changes that make this song so complex. Surprisingly complex for a song that most associate with music played in a shopping mall. I also found his thoughts interesting on how music itself is becoming less and less complex.
I started watching his other videos afterwards, and I really like his approach to music, and how he breaks things down for the layman like me (and by "Layman" I mean I'm a percussionist, not really a musician.)

Rick's song breakdowns are awesome, wish he pumped out more of them.

Rick blew my mind when he showed how much rock music from the 90s had sampled drums. Not only that but many used the same samples (I think it had to do with one of popular mixer engineers at the time).

Andy Wallace Mixing Techniques
Randy Staub Mixing Techniques
Talks about using quick gates on live drum tracks that trigger samples, white noise, reverb to get that big 90s drum sound.

Did I really just sit there for 20 minutes listening to him about figuring out Sergio Mendez?
Now I'm going to be singing that song the rest of the day.

Sergio Mendez had some great songs. This isn't one of them.

I don't watch Beato really regularly but I always enjoy him when I do. He's got some great and wide ranging artists that he'll bring up, like devoting one to the great jazz guitarist Joe Pass. I saw him at the Varsity in the 90s - truly a virtuoso.

Beato is great. I love his videos explaining in detail why we like certain songs. Lot of things you’re not even conscious of.
