Kinda an apples-oranges comparison because PJ was so serious compared to RHCP fun funk.
Eh. Starting with Californication (and continuing with Stadium Arcadium), RHCP were pretty fricking serious. There are at least 15 songs on just those 2 albums that are vastly better than the best PJ song (which is State of Love and Trust, not all that good to begin with).

They both suck. If I was in Hell guess would have to go PJ. RHCP are the dog shite that you can’t scrape off your tennis shoe. PJ is dog shite that does come off eventually.

I was the most casual of fans before Californication. I learned that Rick Rubin-led turnarounds are pretty great. I haven't listened after SA.

This doesn't suck. Very clever tune...and features one of the most blistering outro solos of all time (even though it's mostly just one bent note).

Such a bad take. Would put most of Ten on before I put on a red hot song. State of Love and Trust is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to songs outside of Ten.

Ten is in a league of it's own with very few albums in that league. A better topic would've been Vitalogy vs Stadium Arcadium.

SA is a double album, and is insanely good. I like Vitalogy, but it does drag and has some real stinkers / filler songs on it. See "Bugs", "Pry-to", "Aya Davanita". SA is an hour and a half of great song after great song.

No doubt, when MF was in their prime they could flat out throw down man. An excellent live band.

As far as the OP's question, I also think it's kind of apples and oranges but I guess I would give the edge to RHCP.

I may be in the minority on this but I think Mother Love Bone would have been better than PJ if that singer hadn't ODed, he had a charisma about him that Vedder does not imo

Like Darko says, all equipment should be equipped with a RHCP (skip) button.

I can at least understand why a person would like Ten - and Black is modestly passable. But it still kind of sucks. And EVERYTHING after Ten is unlistenable bilge.

Wet Sand is such a terrific song. From 3:40 to the end might be my part of any RHCP.

Big reason why I have RHCP over Pearl Jam is the quality. Love Pearl Jam's first 3 albums, but everything after that is pretty so so. For RHCP, I liked everything from Mother's Milk to even their most recent two albums. I liked Unlimited Love and Return of the Dream Canteen.

The Great Apes and The Heavy Wing are top quality off of Unlimited Love.

Im with you, the first 2 PJ albums were perfect but since Vedder started taking songwriting from Stone and Jeff, they went downhill.

Chili Peppers have had a long string of good to great albums. I mean w/ Frusciante, Flea, and Chad you can't really go wrong.

Kinda totally different music to not really a comparison.

IMO

I like both but neither I would consider earth shattering.

You could make an argument that Vedder is a better singer than Keidis, but musically Frusciante, Flea, and Smith outclass anyone from Pearl Jam any day of the week both individually and as a band.

RHCP doesn't have anything that can touch Ten.

Remember in Office Space when the Bob's are talking to Michael Bolton about Michael Bolton and the one Bob says, "I celebrate the man's entire catalog"? Well, whatever the opposite of that is would be the way I would describe my feelings for both of these bands.
