2/10 I don't even know where to start with a critique of that song. I was going to give it a 4, but then that segment I would assume is the chorus began.

About what? The song you posted was largely uninteresting and amateurish. The rapping is unimpressive and the "chorus" is grating, at best, channeling all that sucks about dub step drops with a massive level increase in place of true dynamics.

The album this song was from received the Mercury Prize for the best British album of 2014 (not that this makes it any better or worse, but at least some people like it). If you find it uninteresting, that's fine, that's a matter of opinion. I like the lyrics and the sound and find them interesting.
However, I think "amateurish" is an inaccurate criticism.

The "music" is extremely simplistic and repetitive. I don't mind looping, but a loop has to at least have some meat for the potatoes.

Agree to disagree.
I give Shooter a 6/10. Too slow at the beginning and over-serious Pink Floyd-lite lyrics, but overall good sound.

i'll give middle brother a 4/10. i made it through the song, and it didn't offend my sensibilities, but also not something that would make me want to search out other material from them. just not my bag is all.
Parquet Courts - Uncast Shadow of a Southern Myth

Parquet Courts - Uncast Shadow of a Southern Myth
Lyrics
quote:
I'd seen the bloodlands of Antietam
The shotgun shack in Tupelo
But a brick circumference left hollow by Sherman
Crumbling before me how it moaned
His shape swallows my recollection
That phantom silhouette implied
Strange fruit rotting from an airborne and hotter than hell
Is this the king's last man I've spied?
I stood there beside my companion
Scratching a rumor he had heard
Do you have a gun?
What? He said, yeah, you mean this one?
Straight down the barrel was his word
And I smelt the fumes he inhaled swiftly
Each word was hinged upon his choke
Like kudzu creeping up a state tree discretely
Forever bending as it broke
And I heard the jangling keys of Graceland
Ring from his teeth stained brown from coke
Drunk and stumbling like a man of distinction
They clamored shaking as he spoke
Of droves of pilgrims at his doorway
Of Reagan, Carter, Clinton, Gore
Fortunes offered them, refused routinely
This ain't no damn auction house he swore
Black male standing around 6 foot something
Ebbs through the waves of small town blight
A minute coldly from southern affection
Collides secretly into night
Forgive those who trespass against us
Began as the dead intruders plea
Into the very muzzle I'd once peered into
He gives the last words he will speak
But that broken glass supports forced entry
Reminds his lawyer through the phone
What southern judge do you know, comforting gently
Who jails white men who defend their home
No souls were present for the moment
His bombed out brick walls finally fell
Lying face down in the throes of atonement
Checked out of the Heartbreak Hotel
He was the uncast shadow of a southern myth

6/10 I've always liked that record but have felt like it was missing something. It's a good song, but I don't love it.

6/10 except for the last couple of minutes, the guitar reminded me actually of some earlier U2.

3/10 I saw Savage Garden and hesitantly clicked. I gave it the honest, open minded try; however, I still could not like it. It's not terrible though.

I always liked the yeah yeah yeahs. Solid 7.
Sonic Youth- Kool Thing
Inspired by the post-punk thread. Probably in my top-3 SY jams.

Still tapping my toes.
Mixing it up a bit:
"Marian" -- Nouvelle Vague
A trio of Parisian that love Bossa Nova, get models that don't know 80s songs, and have them interpret them.
A little "Sisters of Mercy" done Brazilian style.

7/10: I went 45 seconds waiting to hear how this sounds anything like SoM, and then I realized it was a cover of Marian!
This is very good actually. Reminds me of Air's first record "Moon Safari." The singer's voice is a little weak for me to love it, but it's certainly a good find.
Die Warzau - All Good Girls This song is a true dichotomy. The music is very fun and upbeat, but the theme is quite painful (child sexual abuse). I suggest reading the lyrics along with the song. Similar to Depeche Mode's "Blasphemous Rumors' (quite possibly the saddest song ever written), it plays the opposing themes against each other (music to lyrics). The lyrics if you're interested

Had to comment on your previous post by the yeah yeah yeahs. I've always loved that song "turn into." Zinner's guitar solo gets me everytime. so damn good.
Saw them in Chicago at Metro in 2003 I believe, and it was such a great time. Then again at the riviera in 2006 or 2007. I remember having beer sprayed all over us, at both shows actually.
Now, as for All Good Girls, really was a strange combination of lyrics & music. I'll give it a 5/10, mainly because it's just not my style. Too "faggy synth pop" for me, and if you can name that movie quote +100 to you!
Not bad, but just not my style is all.
The King Khan & BBQ Show - "Why Don't You Lie?"

7/10 I couldn't decide if it was a parody or not. The lyrics were crazy. I still liked it, though.

Love SoO! There are songs on that last record that I'd give 10/10, unfortunately not this one. Still this is a great track.
Alabama Shakes - You Ain't Alone
I'm still riding high from this concert last night, so I'm dropping one of the songs here.
