9/10 Love this! Parts of it remind me of Pulp. This is a great song.

A playlist containing all the songs posted in this thread, in order, would be a great listen if nothing else for the diversity of sound.

6.5 /10 - I like the way it builds. Sounds a touch generic at times for me.
Roy Orbison - Running Scared
Roy Orbison - Running Scared
quote:
Orbison was unhappy with the first two takes, but in the third, he abandoned the idea of using falsetto and sang the final high A naturally, so astonishing everyone present that the accompanying musicians stopped playing.[29] On that third take, "Running Scared" was completed. Fred Foster later recalled, "He did it, and everybody looked around in amazement. Nobody had heard anything like it before.

4/10 - Nothing against the song or lyrics, I just can't get into Orbison's voice. I always cringe when he sings in The Travelling Willbury's songs.

This is a cool idea. I'd be down to let a playlist roll with everything while I work.
Back to the rating...
4/10 Unfortunately I rate this with some bias, because I'm not an Oasis fan. There are some great songs by them, but unfortunately this is one that didn't work for me. I found it a bit boring... plus it's Oasis

Portishead - Glory Box (Live NYC) I had the pleasure of seeing this particular tour at HOB in NO. They were incredible. This song is super chill and gorgeous, so let's see if the next reviewer feels the same.

9/10 - I like Portishead and that particular song was on point. Downloaded and added to my late night playlist.

Really?
That's one of the things I really, really like about the song. Ezra has such a booming, unique voice. It's odd hearing it coming from him because it doesn't fit his appearance.

listen to the song I linked and that'll probably give you an indication why..

6/10 I like it but I'd need to listen a few times to determine if I like it more or if its appeal fades. Tough song to accurately grade on first listen
ETA: The dreaded simultaneous post. The above was for the punkabilly (nice term Jester!
)
Here is my rating of Jonathan Wilson - Desert Raven
8/10 - gorgeous song. I could grow to love this one. Definitely to be downloaded

6.5/10
The beginning reminds me a lot of Let's Stay Together. That said, is there a missing intro there? Just seems to start very abruptly. Honestly, the persistent electric shaker click track kind of takes away from the vibe of the song. With better production it could be a really good song. It just sounds like something that was recorded in an apartment (over-reliance on midi). Replacing the synths with the actual instruments they are attempting to replicate would go a long way.

8/10 I like this one a lot too. You and I have very similar tastes in music. I feel this song needs to be longer, but it's great stuff. I shall download them as well
I've listened to 4 songs now, and they are legit. Remind me a lot of Pinback

Pinback is the shite. Their live show was quite disappointing for me, but their albums are on point. I wish Rob Crow would start making music again. He was great with Team Sleep, too. He almost has too much music to really hear it all.

Hell yeah. I can't help but bob my head to some MC Chris. I actually ended up singing Tasty Face in the Melting Pot on Sunday. I'll give it a 9/10. Didn't he actually tour with Pinback at one point?

He's releasing a solo record some time this year. Dude lost a ton of weight as well. He's unrecognizable!

7/10 Interesting take on the rock opera. He reminds me of Manowar with the heavy elements mixed in. That was killer stuff. Replayability is the only reason I don't rate it higher. I appreciate the rock opera, but I can't listen to it often

5.5/10, has a David Bowie'ish feel to the specific song, would say not in my wheelhouse but not bad.
Lonnie Mack - Stop
Saw Lonnie Mack in some small venues way, way, back. Lost another great one a few weeks ago.

Not his best effort. It just sounds like a typical blues number, but the guitar tone is terribly tinny.
