Stone Roses - Stone Roses
Happy Mondays - Pills n Thrills and Bellyaches
Primal Scream - Screamadelica
Been jamming a lot of Madchester stuff lately and I was just wondering where the board stood on these albums
For me:
1. Pills n Thrills
2. Screamadelica
3. Stone Roses
It was hard choosing two and three but Screamadelica got the nod because Loaded and Come Together are fricking great songs
What say you MB?

3. Stone Roses

1) Stone Roses (an all time great)
2a & 2b) toss up (I like them both, but neither have really stood up over the past 20 years, for me)

That self-titled by the Stone Roses is easily one of my favorite albums ever. It is one of the few CDs I have in my car- complete with jewel case. This will probably sound really gay, but I feel I have a personal connection to it in both the music itself and the lyrics.
That said, there are a few tracks on Screamdelica that are all-timers and can give anything a run for its money. shite I remember being 16 and just getting absolutely stoned in my friend's car and having our minds blown away by "Slip Inside this House" , "Don't Fight It, Feel It", and especially "Higher than the Sun" - which I would describe as the psychedelic motherlode at that point in my life. My friends and I had never heard anything like it before and it really opened some doors.
Happy Mondays had some great singles but I never really thought of them as an album band. The Stone Roses and Screamadelica are much more full-length experiences, IMO.

At that same time in Britain, I would have The La's s/t debut (1990) and Ride's debut "Nowhere" (1990) a much closer #2 & #3 after the Stone Roses...

I guess I did throw it a bit under the bus. It is a good album. I just enjoy the other two way more.
My favorite track out of all 3 is easily "I Am the Resurrection"

I almost didn't list it and was just going to make it a Stone Roses vs. Happy Monday's thread. Which the Monday's would win in my book.

I also did that not too long ago. However you left off Charlatans UK - Some Friendly. But I'd rank those three:
1. Stone Roses
2. Pills, Thrills
3. Screamadelica
I think Primal Scream is Scottish. But they and The Soup Dragons tend to get lumped with the Madchester scene b'c they have the same vibe & sound.
Inspiral Carpets had a few hot or miss tunes off various albums.
808 State was were it's at if you were really into the tab scene. They were pretty popular in the after hour clubs around Houston. It's way more electronic and totally different from Stone Roses and Happy Mondays sound.
