Over the course of my life, I've been introduce to a lot of "new" music via movie soundtracks. These two came up randomly for me on my playlist and I remembered them from the movies I first heard them in....

David Bowie - Stay Riding Giants

The Plugz - Reel Ten Repo Man

What do you have?

Was watching House MD one day and they had a sweet guitar solo from Funkadelic called Maggot Brain. It's kinda a slow rhythm with a sweet guitar solo. Probably not for everyone, but I enjoyed it.

I know the song well, didn't know they used it in House...

There's several songs from movies that have never been released on cd or digitally as for as I know..

Happiness from Michael Stipe & Rain Phoenix (never released, no soundtrack for the film .. someone finally posted a good version from the DVD on youtube last year or so)
Your Daughter is One, and I believe 2 or 3 other songs from the Times Square soundtrack (on vinyl, 8 track & cassette - never cd or digital, I'm kind of shocked they never got reissued yet)
Hundred Grand by Pete Atherton from Final Destination (no clue)

ok, not a movie

but "I Dig Pain" by Pain from the "punk" episode of CHiPs

Season 6 episode 10. It actually went pretty well with the scene as the undercover officer was dying while his big drug bust was going down.

My all time favorite in this category is from the film Broken Flowers by Jim Jarmusch. Bill Murray plays a cab driver and he's always listening to this funky Afro jazz:

Mulatu Astatke - Yègellé Tezeta (My Own Memory)

Even as a fan of jazz and some African music it was something different than anything I had previously encountered. Not going to float everyone's boat but I really dig it as a different flavor to enjoy at times.

More recently, I really enjoyed the movie Belfast and the ending musical number had a huge emotional impact on me. I don't know if I'd heard this song before, and it's not really unique, a solid Motown vibe but in the movie context very powerful.

Belfast - Everlasting Love

It seemed the Sopranos always ended with random songs.

Here's one that started an episode and ended it too.
The Kinks - Living on a thin line

I'd post a link but it a scene from Bada Bing.

I'm guessing the rights to most of those songs on that album is insane which is why they never made a cd version.. they would've lost their arse off big time.

Still think someone should get the masters to the original songs on there and put them digitally.. that can't be crazy, way more obscure shite has been converted to digital

I am old and may not be understanding what you're saying, but I can find that song on Youtube Music.

Not uploaded by youtube.

It's a version off of the vinyl converted to digital, you can hear ticks every now and then. I want a mp3 directly from the master copy (the reel) with no flaws.. unless they were burned in that fire a some years ago, they probably exist somewhere.

Way more obscure stuff has been transferred to digital.. hopefully when the Iron Claw comes out, they'll have mp3s of Glen Goza's stuff

Agreed. The 90's Farrelly brothers movies and the Sopranos had great soundtracks that introduced me to a lot of new artists and songs.

Also, a bit off topic, but the Final Fantasy VII score is phenomenal. Opened my mind to some obscure places to look for good music. Some of the themes still pop in my head 20+ years after I played the game.
