Is it me, or is Lambert just not good with them? I remember a guy that could sing like Mercury, Marc Martel was really good. Why was Lambert picked to front the group? Anybody know the reasoning?

Adam Lambert can sing but that Mark Martel guy sounded exactly like Mercury, it was just amazing. I assume they wanted a known name to take the spot and no one knows who Mark Martel is unless they saw the video that went viral for a week or so.

To be fair, May and Taylor picked him to front the official Queen tribute band.

I think they felt they had to fill the spot permanently with a flamboyantly gay dude. I mean, they toured with Paul Rodgers who was the opposite of that, so I may be reaching, but that's the only thing that distinguishes Lambert from other choices:

He's very, very, very, very gay (NTTAWWT).

Lambert brings the flamboyant showmanship of Freddie and does his own thing vocally. He's a good singer but not an exact clone of Freddie's voice, which I think would be lazy. He's a good tribute to Freddie while helping bring the music to the younger generation.

This guy gets it.

I don’t want to see someone doing a Freddie impersonation. Adam Lambert has the chops to do Freddie’s music justice, while maintaining his own personality and showmanship. I’ve seen Queen in concert with both singers. Enjoyed both.

Honestly I think that they chose him because he was name coming off of American Idol and gay.

May and Taylor want to be on the road and Lambert gave them that chance.

To be honest I really found the opening of the oscars bad with Adam Lambert singing. It didn’t sound right at all. I hated the way he sang “We Will Rock You”

Lambert makes them sound like a Broadway production.

I get that, but Lambert just isn't a very good singer for my tastes.

Not even close.

Am I retarded if I thought it was Adam Lavigne fronting for Queen this whole time?

Anytime I read Adam Lambert, I was just confused as shite thinking there’s no way that soyboy from Maroon 5 had the chops to sing like Freddie

Like I said, I’ve seen them with Freddie and seen them with Lambert, and seen Lambert on his own twice. You may not like his style or voice personally, but to pretend he isn’t a great singer is laughable. But then again, what do Brian May and Roger Taylor know, right?

And they didn’t pick him because of his popularity after Idol, they picked him because they worked with him for the Idol finale show and recognized his abilities. His solo career after Idol got off to a rough start after his performance on an awards show to promote his debut album was a disaster (kissing one of the band members and there might have been some simulated gay sex acts from what I recall). He tried to go over the top and failed miserably. He accepted the Queen gig after his solo career basically became gay dance club music and remixes. He was not a rising star that lifted an aging Queen - it was precisely the opposite.

Truer words are rarely spoken.

I honestly have no idea WTF they were thinking with that dude if it was unrelated to his flamboyant personality and AI popularity.

Which makes it even more bizarre and inexplicable. Queen could have picked from dozens of quality singers, some perhaps older, some perhaps less "flamboyant", but this guy? Color me wholly unimpressed.

I admit it, you’re 100% right. By all means you’re a better judge of talent than May and Taylor.

What does Lambert bring to Queen musically? He's basically a hired gun that sings Freddie songs in a half-way decent manner, if you like flamboyant Broadway karaoke. The guy that I wish Queen would have selected to tour with them is the same guy that Journey should have kept. Jeff Scott Soto.
