Austin Lucas’ release of Stay Reckless marks an important moment for this young troubadour who has amassed fans from Bloomington, IN to Prague. Inspired by X, producer Mark Nevers (Lambchop, Jason Isbell) captures an alt-country album brimming with punk rock energy and heartland earnestness. In 2007 Lucas began to entwine his punk rock nature with his bluegrass upbringing eventually collaborating and touring with Chuck Ragan of Hot Water Music and traveling the country on The Warped Tour, Willie Nelson’s Country Throwdown Tour and The Revival Tour. Being raised by accomplished bluegrass musician Bob Lucas and then embarking on a stripling discovery, Austin Lucas has come full circle with Stay Reckless, a record that embodies the work of an experienced troubadour.

quote:

Austin Lucas' story is kind of like that of a musical prodigal son. The Indiana native was raised listening to bluegrass and folk, but Lucas found himself attending and playing at punk shows -- until the genre wrecked his voice.

"I was singing my whole life, in operas, with my family. I was always a singer and … when I was 21 years old, … I realized that I no longer was able to sing because I'd been screaming in all of these bands," Lucas said. "It completely broke my heart."

recently signed to new west records...

quote:

Nashville, TN's Austin Lucas has joined New West Records, home of Steve Earle, Patty Griffin, and the Whigs, among others.

Lucas, previous of Bloomington, IN, is to release Stay Reckless, his fifth studio album, and first for New West, on August 27th, 2013. Accompanied by longtime friends and tour-mates Glossary, Lucas recorded Stay Reckless with Mark Nevers at Never's Beech House studio, sharing production duties with Nevers as well.

saw this show last night at circle bar. both of these guys are way too good for venues this size; really fortunate to see acts like this..

and john moreland's record is so freaking good.. it's crazy that more folks aren't hearing him. that venue should have been packed...

I wouldn't say they are too good for the venues .. they just haven't garnered the audience to play bigger places and if Sat/Sunday's turnout are any indication it's not happening too soon. M+W and the Circle Bar should be applauded for going after these up and coming artist and helping to build their name, so they can move up to the next level.

I don't mean it to be derogatory to the venues and I agree with your sentiments. I just believe John's talent in particular is bigger than playing to 25 people.

Trust me .... i think John's album is one of the best of the year and there should have been a packed house both nights. I should have given away a bunch of tickets to Saturday night's show because i basically paid for a private show anyway

Y'all need to do a better job capitalizing on the gameday crowd. Literally thousands of people pass in front of your front door.
