Beatle, Stones, and Dylan are all vastly over rated

While I enjoy his music, Bob Dylan's voice is not good.

I despise Journey

Bruce Springsteen is overrated, Elvis Costello is underrated.

I enjoy Time by Hootie and the Blowfish

It's somewhat possible people like music for a variety of reasons, which explains why someone's awesome is another's meh.

But this board is getting as bad as the F&D board or the movie/tv board in that regard.

Well at least Phish is the official band of the board so a bit of legitimacy is still intact.

A few more:

-Tupac is very average, if not below average
-Brian Eno is the most important musician of the last century
-The Grateful Dead are boring
-The Disco Biscuits are the only band around that still REALLY "jams"
-The Who are terrible. The Doors are even worse.

I was about to post this. I can't believe some people even attempt to compare him to Notorious BIG. It ain't even close.

He is up there, especially with regards to electronica and production.

You are missing out big time, my friend.

Phish had an incredible 2013. Reading DWD & 20 Years Later, Hampton Carini, Tahoe Tweezer, Atlantic City Ghost->Carini, MSG DWD->Carini, Dick's Chalk Dust Torture, Hampton Tweezer, etc.... Tons of good jams.

One more:

-The late 90's and early 2000's pop music was the fricking shite. Some of the most diverse, wide-ranging stuff on Billboard top 40 lists ever. I'm so glad I was a kid during this era.

I don't really identify with any genre(s), just specific artists and more so albums from all genres

GD > ABB (I still LOVE ABB tho)

Beatles are meh

Tupac is borderline bad

I enjoy Sublime and the Disco Biscuits

I don't care for Pink Floyd

Most music from the 80s sucks

90s country is really fricking terrible

I don't care for 90s east coast hip hop

nah dawg

Disco Biscuits play 2 set, 3+ hour shows where like 10-15 minutes of it isn't improv

Get back to me when 3.0 Phish even comes anywhere near that

yup

I also used to think this. 80-84 was actually pretty fricking great. You just gotta wade through a lot of garbage to find the good stuff.

Improv doesn't automatically mean it is good.

People bitched about jams being too long in 03-04 and now people bitch because they are too short. I like the new style of jamming that is more concise and less likely to worthlessly meander.

There was an explosion of new stuff in the early 80's and most was awful. Some of it was very good though.

Top 40 stuff was crap.

For sure. Agreed. But I didn't say anything about being good or not. They're still out there improving more of thier live sets than anybody else in the "scene". Now we could discuss how hard is it really to just noodle on a synth over a 4/4 beat for 3 hours, but that's another discussion.

I agree. It's kind of hard to remove the nostalgia factor when you're thinking about this type of thing tho.

I was jamming some Dido last night. Brought me back to 7th grade in a big way.

-Whitney Houston was talented but a terrible vocalist. "Divas" have been oversinging ever since and it's made pop music mostly unlistenable.

-Rap has made our culture more accepting of ignorance and crassness. It's had its moments but we'd be better off without it.

-The Stones pretty good but nothing special.

-There's too much music. It doesn't need to be in every store, every restaurant, at the gas pump, before every sporting event, in bathrooms etc. Nobody's really listening to it. Sometimes you have to hear more than one song at the same time. It's noise.
