I was introduced to them about 10 years ago, really liked it and then somehow forgot all about them. Recently I saw something about them somewhere that triggered my memory, so I have been listening to them a lot the last few days.
Hoe Lee shite!
This is a great band. Every record I have listened to is fantastic. So far "In The Mountain In The Cloud" is my favorite, but that could always change. I feel like the last decade of my life has an emptiness now that can never be filled.
I am fully on board.

Most under-rated or at least under-discussed relevant band on this board. Those guys are so good. Both on albums and live. The last 2 albums, especially the Evil Friends album, are great. Evil Friends was one of the best albums in 2013.

I was just introduced to them like 3 years ago when they were at Voodoo. I realllly like them. Purple Yellow Red and Blue Passion Pit Remix is the shite.
eta: They were at Voodoo in 2011 so 4 years ago.

So far I have been spinning American Ghetto, Evil Friends and In The Mountain In The Cloud. All 3 are excellent, but Mountain is elite

Love Portugal the Man. In the Mountain In the Cloud is their best, also they put on a great live show. Last saw them HOB 2013.

I love "Sleep Forever"

Some of them grew up in Wasilla. Many of their early songs were about that experience. Dead Dog is about a bar I used to frequent up there

Sleep Forever is killer. I'm going to download some more record tomorrow. I'm fully hooked
Had it playing tonight and my wife was asking me all about it. She's hooked too now

aight Heady, I'll pull this album down through my Rhapsody account tomorrow...if I like it I will download it in Hi-rez.
Also...you should really test drive some of that Acoustic Alchemy from the post that I started yesterday. It's really nice stuff and probably right up your alley. The musicians in his British modern jazz band are extremely talented and have been at it for 30+ years.
Since I had Balloon Sinuplasty surgery late this evening (Thursday), I will probably spend the next 3 days at home recovering--which means that I will be in front of the new rig for about 14 hours a day. So I am going to give some of the "2015 Albums of the Year" thread a listen.
I ordered a crossover for the new rig I set up and will spend time tweaking that system while listening to a bunch of new stuff.
Any more suggestions? I will go on your recommendation and just download a few of them from HD Tracks.

the only PTM song I can recall hearing is people say, but I aboslutely love it. I think they may have had 1 big radio song a while back which I've heard too, but can't recall it.
For someone completely ignorant of their music (obviously), what are 5 or 6 songs that I MUST listen to to get me hooked?

It's bugging me, but I can't quite put my finger on who they remind me of. They are very unique, but the sound is reminiscent of some other band(s) in the past.
I hear a little Bowie maybe? Quite possibly Charlatans UK? What are some of your thoughts? His voice often sounds like the tenor singer of Supertramp

Their live show sound has a serious psychedelic component to it. I always hear some Beatles in there somewhere.

Was randomly thinking about PTM at lunch today and decided to search to see if this board talked any about them!
They were amazing at Hangout Fest and all of their music is great.
