Okay, did you just bust out the rolling stones song rankings? Really? Is that the best you got?

Oh, I've got plenty more, even though you'll probably conveniently truncate that, too.

Explain to me how "God Only Knows" is "timeless" when "Yesterday" is by many accounts the most covered song in the world? 2200 known recorded covers by latest count, by the way.

Explain to me how Led Zeppelin was more culturally significant than the Beatles when I, not you, lived through the era, saw and felt their impact, and can tell you that it would have been very possible to go through the 60's and 70's without knowing Led Zeppelin at all, but just about impossible to not know who the Beatles were.

You're entitled to not like the Beatles and you're even entitled to be ignorant about them. But don't expect that people who know better will be impressed with either you or "Wonderwall".

Dude how fricking retarded are you? Lol at you bringing up virginity when you defend I Want It That Way to death. You've made it obvious that you don't want to talk music and you're just here to troll.

Good luck trying to get this though his head.

Oasis - Wonderwall

I respect the Beatles and how influential they were to music, but they alone never struck a chord with me.

It's really OK to prefer "Wonderwall" to anything the Beatles did. It's music... tastes vary. But some of the OP's statements are truly idiotic, particularly those dismissing the Beatles' "timelessness" and their cultural impact.

I bet if you write the word "retarded" in seven or eight more posts, I might actually become retarded.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with not liking The Beatles. They're not for everybody. Some will find them boring. But if you haven't read the thread, this is what we have covered so far

OP thinks:
1. The Beatles are not relevant because you don't hear them at parties or on the radio when you and your bros go on a ski trip
2. Nobody cares about the Beatles
3. The only reason their compilation album 1 is the best selling album between 2000-2009 is because a lot of old people bought it
4. The Backstreet Boys' 1999 hit "I Want It That Way" is a better than anything John Lennon, Paul McCartney, or George Harrison
5. Beatles fans are virgins
6. Beatles' songs are not timeless

And I just gave myself cancer having written that

I'm pretty comfortable with my sexuality. But maybe this will get a rise out of somebody else.

I am too. I actually have nothing against BSB. Growing up in the 90s, the BSB were one of my favorite groups. A BSB album was the first album I ever brought. I actually like Outkast (who you said was your favorite group) a lot too. Ms Jackson is easily in my top 50 songs ever and Speakerboxx/The Love Below is probably a top 10 album for me. Wonderwall is on my iPod. I actually like most of the stuff you like. The difference is, you're going out your way to shite on the Beatles because frankly, you're tired of hearing about them.

You might think this thread was clever by going 11 pages which is a music board rarity, but when you actually read though it, 3/4 of the posts are actually laughing at you. So when it's all said and done, you didn't accomplish anything except looking like an ignorant jackass.

1. The song still sounds awesome, both to me, and...
2. ...to other people too: Boogie Nights Outro

1. I think LZ made better music than The Beatles, and I don't believe it's even that close of a call. And on that particulary point, I'm not simply one of two posters on a music board arguing against an army of sheep. No no. On the LZ point, I think I must just be a part of the herd.
2. I will not provide any sort of anecdotal drivel about me making a mix tape when I was 16 that had my fav LZ songs on one side and my favorite Bob Marley songs on the other.
3. But I will point out that imitation is the highest form of flattery, and I submit to you that no band has been imitated as brazenly as LZ. Both in the makeup of the band, and in the way they sound. It might be overstating it to say that Led Zeppelin essentially created their own genre...but it's not that far off.
4. And if that doesn't make them more culturally releant than The Beatles, then the only reason it doesn't is because somebody told you long ago that The Beatles were the most influential band of all time, and by god you're sticking to that story.

I'm not overly concerned with my reputation.

Here is what I think about The Beatles. I think they've been generally recognized as the greatest band of all time for so long that people long ago stopped actually considering the tiny little question of whether they're really that good. Whether they are in fact the greatest band ever, of if they became the greatest band of all time because they were famous for being the greatest band of all time.

And so how do we figure this out? If a the greatness of a band is so ingrained into our culture that we have to accept it as fact or risk ridicule, then what is the solution to determine whether they were possibly inappropiately pedestalized in the first place?

I think the answer is you get back and listen to the music. I've done that. I've listned to Beatles albums and muttered to myself: "this is the best band of all time? REALLY?"

They blatantly stole stole bits and pieces of music in the same way that every band does.

And whether they did or didn't has no bearing on the influence that their music had going forward.

Two separate threads.

I can buy this.

Just cuz the boomers drool over the Beatles shouldn't mean they are immune from careful reexamination

The Beatles' music speaks for itself. If you don't "get it" then that's your problem
