Pitchfork's complete ignorance of the alt country scene is what annoys me the most. I'm not asking that they cater to them exclusively or anything, I realize that that's not their demographic, but they could at least acknowledge their existence. Especially when making lists such as this one.

Wasted Days, imo, best songs of 2012. The vocals for some people can be a deal breaker. Love the drumming on the track.

Yeah, that's why I like Paste. It's still a rock mag at heart, but they really champion alt country and Y'allternative.

No Alabama Shakes, Lumineers or Of Monsters and Men is pretty funny, considering they're going to be top 5-10 on most lists this year.

Shakes, yes. The other two? Nope. I'd probably rank Of Monsters and Men on my own list, but it's getting no play on critics' year end lists.

Looks like I was wrong.
I see Of Monsters and Men is #1 on the Amazon list (not sure where that comes from) so I guess I erroneously assumed that was translating into more critical acclaim. Lumineers not far behind. Kind of weird, as the huge majority of people I know still have never heard of these bands, so it isn't like they're "too popular."
Personally I think both added a lot more to the music scene than the Shakes, so it is interesting that they're behind with critics.
Other than Tame Impala and Japandroids, that top 10 meta list is terrible to me. I'm also always surprised to see press applaud releases that the fans (of that particular artist) are somewhat disappointed in. Like Beach House, for example. I know a lot of fans that were not at all fanatical about it, but the critics like it.

Pitchfork's list becomes more and more dissimilar from mine every year. I really like Magnet's list.

I find pitchfork's list to usually be pretty good, while I don't like all of their picks, I do like about half of their best new music picks.

Well, I personally think he's brilliant. It's all there. He creates incredible melodies. Has a seriously legit voice. And is a very unique lyricist for that genre
I'm totally buying the hype. Maybe the first Prince comparison to come along yet that sticks for the right reasons

yeah I read like 17 other pubs Best Of lists and frankly pitchfork was really late in the game in listing the same exact albums as everyone else.
it's pretty passe to hate on p4k when they're just one voice in a chorus of indie homogeneity

Solid list. I explored a lot of music. I spent probably two hours listening to different stuff. Really enjoyed the experience. I'm a big fan of Pitchfork. I wish I could write as well about music as they do.
