Peter Green, the trailblazing blues-rock guitarist who helped form Fleetwood Mac in 1967 before parting ways with the band in 1970, has died at the age of 73, BBC reports.

The news on Saturday comes just two days day after Fleetwood Mac announced a forthcoming massive box set reissue of their first seven studio albums, some of which featured Green on guitar prior to the arrival of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks in 1975.

the Mac was a heater of a blues band before 75. I have a bootleg box of CDs from Jan 1970 at the warehouse with Fleetwood Mac and the Grateful Dead that I bought for the dead sets, but the Mac sets are spellbinding

RIP

No Peter Green, no Fleetwood Mac...he was the force behind their formation, and the musical talent in the early years.

I kind of figured he would be older than that. Fleetwood Mac was not the first band he was in.

“Now, when I talked to God I knew he'd understand
He said, "Stick by my side and I'll be your guiding hand

But don't ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to"

RIP, Mister Green

"Albatross"

This hit #1 on the UK singles chart. John Lennon acknowledged its influence on The Beatles' track "Sun King".

I think he was the man after Clapton, in Mayall's Blues breakers.

We all know the reverence BB King had for his playing.

He assembled a great band. There were three grand guitarists. He was very generous.

Kirk Hammet bought his famous '59. Petey sold it to Gary Moore way back before thin lizzy for a cool $200. Stayed in Gary's collection till he passed and now Kirk has it after buying it from a private collector
